“Nothing surprises me” – Luis Suarez said about Lionel Messi’s brilliant performance in the Inter Miami vs NYRB clash

Lionel Messi’s team-mate Luis Suarez thought he had seen it all, but with the Argentinian around anything is possible and that is what happened in the 6-2 win over NY Red Bulls on Sunday (May 5)

In the 50th minute, Messi got on the score sheet and bagged five assists to his name as well. On that night, the former FC Barcelona star became the first-ever player to register five assists in a single game.

Meanwhile, Suarez who had shared the pitch 268 times across all competitions for Barcelona and Inter Miami, admitted this was something he hadn’t seen Messi pull off.

This match saw the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner assist the Uruguay striker three times. He spoke at the post-match interview saying:

“What we saw tonight is surprising because it hasn’t been seen in our sport before, but as a teammate and knowing Leo, nothing surprises me because that’s the quality player he is.”

“On the field, it’s a different feeling having him as a teammate because we know each other so well, sometimes without even looking at each other. That was another plus we had tonight on a great night,” he added.

Inter Miami go top of the Eastern Conference after their latest result, taking them three points above Cincinnati who have a game in hand.

Messi’s brilliant start of the season continues with his tally of 12 goals and 11 assists in 11 games across all competitions so far.

Lionel Messi proved he is a class apart yet again, in the recent victory over NY Red Bulls. Apart from his goal the 36-year-old provided 5 assists.

The ex-Paris Saint Germain won six of 11 ground duels making one tackle.

Overall, Messi has had an incredible start in the MLS after joining Miami in 2023. He has played 25 games scoring 23 times with, 16 assists to his name.
