Brentford vs Chelsea Preview

  • Tournament: Premier League
  • Date: 6 April, 2025
  • Kick-off Time: 01:00 PM GMT
  • Venue: Gtech Community Stadium

Chelsea are set to take on London rivals Brentford in what is expected to be a feisty derby, as they look to strengthen their push for a top 4 finish in the Premier League. The Brentford vs Chelsea clash will take place on Sunday, 6 April at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Brentford are currently in 11th place in the Premier League table after having picked up 41 points so far. They have had some issues with consistency in the ongoing campaign, but the form did improve before the March (2025) international break. The Bees won three of their last five Premier League matches before the break, which included away wins against Bournemouth and West Ham United. They have scored eight goals in the last five league games. Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo have been spearheading their charge for a place in the top-half of the Premier League table, having scored a combined 29 goals in the league this season.

Chelsea are yet to really tap into their best form heading into the final stretch of the 2024/25 season but are still in 4th place in the table with 49 points from 29 games. They have won two of their last five Premier League games, both of which came at Stamford Bridge. The Blues are currently on a four-game losing streak in away league games, something they'll be desperate to resolve soon. Chelsea have scored 53 goals in the Premier League so far, having the third-best goal record in the division. They are averaging 1.8 points and 5.8 shots per game, as well as boasting 58.3% ball possession in every match.

They have although, had a pretty topsy-turvy away record in the Premier League. Chelsea have won six of their 15 away games this season, losing on six occasions too. They'll be desperate to fix that record in this upcoming derby, having gotten the better of Brentford in an entertaining game at Stamford Bridge earlier this season.

Brentford are going through quite the injury crisis right now. The likes of Fabio Carvalho (shoulder), Mathias Jensen (illness), Joshua Dasilva (knee), Gustavo Fernandes and Nico Henry are all expected to miss this clash. They should, however, get Aaron Hickey back in their backline for this derby.

Omari Kellyman remains out of action for Chelsea as he sustained a thigh injury before the March international break. Mykhailo Mudryk remains unavailable as he's still suspended. Chelsea should, however, have their key players like Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke back for this clash.

Key Players to watch in Brentford vs Chelsea

Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford)

Bryan Mbeumo

Bryan Mbeumo has been the driving force for Brentford after the departure of Ivan Toney. He has had an 8.80 xG (expected goals) in the Premier League so far after 29 games but has managed to exceed that emphatically. Mbeumo has scored 15 goals (from 32 attempts on target) and provided five assists in 29 games.

He scored in the loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge earlier this season and scored three braces across this campaign so far. The 25-year-old winger is a menacing threat with his clever movement in the final third, being explosive on the counterattack and really clinical in finishing off chances.

Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea)

After missing a few months of action because of an injury, Nicolas Jackson is determined to end it on a high note. The Senegalese forward has scored nine goals and provided five assists in 23 games for Chelsea so far this season but has actually underperformed his 11.29 xG.

He has managed 31 shots on target and completed 55 dribbles in the Premier League and even scored a clutch goal in the win over Brentford earlier in the 2024/25 season. He'll look to be a menace with his smart off-the-ball movement to skip past the Brentford centre-backs but needs to be ruthless in finishing off chances to amplify Chelsea's ability to get a win.

Brentford vs Chelsea Prediction

We should witness a very entertaining London derby between these two teams because of the stakes in front of them. While Chelsea push to strengthen their grip on a top 4 place, Brentford are pushing to get back into the top 10. The matches between these two teams have been dramatic encounters in recent years and that pattern should continue.

However, we expect Chelsea to just about power past the Bees to get a win here. Enzo Maresca's side are re-energized after the March international break and have enough firepower to trouble the Brentford backline. The quality of Cole Palmer, Nico Jackson & co should ultimately be too hot to handle for Brentford, even if they're expected to put up a brave fight in the derby.

Predicted Score: Brentford 1-2 Chelsea
