IPL which stands for Indian Premier League is one of the most popular, cash-rich, and followed T-20 cricket leagues in the world with millions of fans across India and all over the world. Lalit Modi was the founder, first chairman and League Commissioner of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It is a league that is more than a sport, it's like an emotion for millions of fans not just in India but also across the globe and this can be seen in the Stadium where fans come to support their favourite team. IPL was inaugurated in 2008 by the Board of Control for Cricket of India (BCCI) and is played every year from the month of March/April to May/June depending upon when it starts. This league has been played at different locations across India. These locations are mostly the home state of the teams that are part of this league. As mentioned earlier most of the matches are played in the home state because not all matches are played at the home state grounds of the teams that are part of this league, BCCI arranges some matches in other states as well for the fans of cricket. There is a total of 10 teams that are currently playing in the IPL which includes Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indian (MI), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR) Royal Challengers Bengaluru(RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH), Delhi Capitals(DC), and two new joinee Gujarat Titans (GT) & Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). These teams play very competitive cricket which makes this tournament the most intense league with nail-biting finishes in every match.
The amount of money that is made from this tournament can be concluded from the fact that it is expected that IPL will contribute ₹1,150 crore to India’s GDP with its high brand value and revenue in the 2025 season. This tournament has been played in a very interesting format as mentioned earlier there are 10 teams that are part of this tournament, and these teams are divided into two different subgroups Group A and B. Both groups consist of 5 teams and teams from each group play 2-2 matches with the group member and 1-1 match with the teams from the other group in the league stage of the tournament.
The top four teams after the league stage go into the Play-offs of this tournament. When the top 2 teams get the benefit of being the table toppers, and they play Qualifier -1 against each other the winner directly goes to the finals, also the loser of this match gets one more chance to qualify for the finals in the Qualifier-2. On the other hand, the teams in the 3rd and 4th positions play the eliminator match against each other and the loser of this match gets eliminated from the tournament and the winner plays Qualifier 2 against the loser of Qualifier-1. The winner of this match goes into the finals of the IPL. Then the best two teams battle against each other and the winner becomes the champion of this tournament. There are a total of 74 matches played during the tournament including all the league and play-off matches.
