Highbury Square: Former Arsenal Stadium

Before Emirates Stadium came into effect in 2006, Arsenal had a different football stadium in Highbury, London. It was the home of Arsenal from 1913 to 2006 and was known as Highbury during the time, and also called ‘The Home of Football’. The Arsenal previous stadium was built in 193 on the site of a local college ground and was redeveloped twice before being converted into housing. After the second redevelopment, further attempts at redevelopment were denied by the community, which resulted in a reduction of the overall capacity of the stadium, hence generating less matchday revenue.

Due to these reasons, Arsenal Football Stadium was changed, and the club opted for the Emirates Stadium instead. Meanwhile, Highbury Stadium, Arsenal previous stadium, was redeveloped into a residential housing property, which is now called Highbury Square. After the introduction of the Arsenal Emirates Stadium, Highbury Square has been involved only in housing properties and does not offer any other sporting grounds. The previous Arsenal stadium also hosted several international football matches, along with various boxing, baseball, and cricket matches, before getting redeveloped in 2006.
