Syria Vs Pakistan Preview

Date: Tuesday, March 25

Syria lock horns with Pakistan in round 1 of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers at the Prince Abdullah bin Jalawi Stadium on Tuesday. This will be the first meeting between these two sides while also their first match in this competition.
Syria had an underwhelming campaign in the World Cup qualifiers as they failed to qualify after finishing third in the group. Their recent form has been alarming having suffered back-to-back defeats against Thailand and Russia. They were hammered by Russia in the last match where they conceded four goals and also failed to score one. However, they will aim to shift their focus on the AFC qualifiers having drawn with the likes of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Myanmar.
Pakistan on the other hand are going through a poor run of form having lost each of their last six matches. They missed out on the World Cup qualification after finishing bottom of the table with 0 points from six matches that too conceding a whopping 26 goals. Their attacking side hasn't been great either after scoring just one goal with Stephen Constantine having lots of work to do to turn them into a well-drilled side. Now, they are set to face Syria before taking on Myanmar in June.

As for Pakistan, they have a full-fit squad to choose from. Stephen Constantine is likely to stick to his 5-3-2 formation which will help the team in more stability in defending deep having conceded lots of goals in the previous match. Yousuf Butt is likely to start in goal with Abdullah Iqbal leading the three-man defense.
