Parma 2–2 Inter Milan Player Ratings: Parma’s Survival Hopes Get Huge Boost After Coming Back from 2 Goals Down

A chaotic game saw Parma come back from 2 goals down to snatch a point from league leaders Inter Milan to continue their fight against relegation. Inter, meanwhile see their lead at the top be cut down to just 4 points with Napoli playing Bologna tomorrow.

Parma decided to play with a 4-3-3 to counter the league leaders tried and tested 3-5-2. Parma would have fancied their chances with Inter missing the likes of Taremi, Dumfries and the lot. But it did not take long for Inter to assert dominance.

The visitors had the game’s first shot when a Bastoni cross saw Martinez hit it first-time on the volley, but it was high. Bisseck then had a pop with a headed attempt but it was easily gathered by Suzuki. The German had another shot but that went harmlessly wide as Inter kept the pressure on the hosts.

However, against the run of play, Parma had a golden chance to take the lead. A lovely diagonal from defence saw Emanuele Valeri put in a peach of a cross in the box. Bonny unleashed a shot from the box, but Sommer pulled out an excellent save to deny the striker from close range.

That chance came to haunt the hosts almost immediately as Inter took the lead with some slick build-up play. A Parma clearance found Bastoni, who quickly released Di Marco on the left. His cross evaded Martinez and Thuram, but Matteo Darmian was at the right place, pulling a first-time shot that went in off the post.

Parma did not let the opening goal let their morale drop. Mandela Keita put in a great ball for Dennis Man but Sommer was once again on hand to deny Parma an equaliser. Meanwhile, Suzuki matched his counterpart as he denied Martinez to put his side 2-0 up.

However, Inter eventually doubled their lead with a goal that was equal hilarious as it was well-worked. Mkhitaryan found himself through and put in a ball to an unmarked Thuram. The Frenchman horribly skewed his shot, but even Almqvist’s best efforts could not stop the ball from going over the line. This was Thuram’s first league goal since January and the relief on his face was palpable.

Almqvist was booked, and Inter kept the ball to themselves as they went into the half with a 2-goal cushion. The second half was a different story as Parma came out with a sense of vigor and energy, and that showed in their game. Inter, who up until that point had comfortably kept possession were now being forced into mistakes. A triple change for Parma to begin the first half saw fresh legs harangue the Inter midfield. And soon enough they were rewarded.

Adrián Bernabé halved the deficit after a quick feed to him by Bonny saw him pull the trigger from a long way out that caught Sommer off-guard. The goal seemed to bring the entire stadium to life and the hosts responded to their crowd by heaping even more pressure on their visitors.

That pressure paid off as Parma stormed back on level terms in the 69th minute. Pellegrino found Ondrejka, who barrelled through the Inter defence and saw his deflected strike bulge into the back of the net to send the crowd into a state of delirium.

Inter, having seen their lead evaporate, were now hanging on for dear life. They were dangerously close to losing the game when Pellegrino raced ahead of the Inter defense but saw his shot go agonisingly wide of the target. Here are the Parma vs Inter Milan Player Ratings.

GK- Zion Suzuki- 5.5/10

Should have done better with the goal as he was beaten at the near post. Could do nothing but curse his luck for the second. Made a sharp save to keep the scoreline down to 1-0. Was proactive in possession and did not have much to do in the second half.

RB- Enrico Del Prato- 5/10

The skipper was guilty of letting Di Marco the space to put in the cross that led to Inter’s opening goal. Was rock solid in the second half.

RCB- Alessandro Vogliacco- 5/10

Time and again was guilty of letting Martinez get into space and was fortunate not to be punished for it. Improved in the second half with his side in the ascendancy.

LCB- Lautaro Valenti- 5.5/10

It was a good match for Thuram in the heart of the defence. Had a decent second half in terms of clearances and blocks.

LB- Emanuele Valeri- 6/10

The full-back had a fair amount of joy on his flank as he delivered a couple of really good crosses that should have been converted.

RCM- Mandela Keita- 5.5/10

Put in a really good cross for Man midway through the first half. Was a busy presence in the second half as Parma upped the ante.

CM- Hernani- 5/10

Was tidy in possession in the middle of the park. Subbed off at half-time

LCM- Simon Sohm- 4.5/10

A rather quiet and anonymous performance in which he was not able to influence proceedings. Was subbed 9 minutes into the second half.

RW- Pontus Almqvist- 5/10

Was booked for a very cynical challenge on Bastoni. Had a shot blocked by the defender in the first half. Was hooked off at half-time

ST- Ange-Yoan Bonny- 7/10

Could have and should have put Parma in the lead, but saw his shot saved by Sommer. Assisted the opening goal for his side with an accurate pass under pressure. Was instrumental in his side’s comeback as he was everywhere to help the hosts.

LW- Dennis Man- 4.5/10

The Romanian should have put his side on level terms, but even he saw his shot saved well by Sommer. Did not have much to offer after as he was subbed at half-time.

Sub- Giovanni Leoni- 5/10

He was a calming presence as his side pressed forward in the second half. Did his bit to apply pressure on the Inter midfield.

Sub- Adrián Bernabé- 7/10

Made an impact with his arrival to halve the deficit with a wonderful strike from long range. Was constantly pressing and harrying the Inter defense as they pegged their visitors in their half.

Sub- Mateo Pellegrino- 6/10

Did not get his passing right as he misplaced or overhit them quite often. However, he atoned for that with his assist for the equalising goal. Had a chance to win the game but poked his effort wide.

Sub- Jacob Ondrejka- 6.5/10

Scored the equaliser following a bulldozing run from the half-line. Had another goalbound effort blocked late in the second half.

Sub- Drissa Camara- N/A

A late sub. Did not make much of an impact

Manager- Cristian Chivu- 7/10

A daring call from the manager to make a triple change at halftime worked wonders. All his changes were vindicated as 3 of the 5 contributed to the 2 goals. This will be a morale-boosting result as they look to save themselves from relegation.

GK- Yann Sommer- 6.5/10

An excellent first half where he kept the Parma attack at bay with two outstanding stops. Was taken by surprise as he was beaten from distance and was helpless to prevent the equaliser.

RCB- Yann Bisseck- 6/10

The German enjoyed his attacking freedom as he went forward with aplomb. Had a shot saved and used his strength well in attacking areas.

CB- Francesco Acerbi- 5.5/10

Had a couple of good deep diagonal balls that kickstarted Inter attacks. Was unable to contain the second goal as Ondrejka proved too quick for him.

LCB- Alessandro Bastoni- 6/10

Was a constant creator from the deep for his side. His quick give-and-go with Di Marco was the catalyst for the opening goal. Was subbed at half-time with the midweek Champions League quarterfinals in mind.

RWB- Matteo Darmian- 6/10

Opened the scoring with a precise finish after a good run. Should have had another one but snatched at the opportunity. Was unlucky to see his deflection give Parma the equaliser.

CM- Kristjan Asllani- 5/10

A solid, no-frills performance from the Albanian who kept things tight. Made a couple of decent clearances in the second half.

CM- Hakan Çalhanoğlu- 5.5/10

Was a little too trigger-happy in the first half as he tried too shoot a little too often. Gave away possession a bit in the second half before being taken off.

CM- Henrikh Mkhitaryan- 6.5/10

Was his usual calm self and his intelligence led to him registering his 5th assist of the season with an accurate cutback for Thuram. Was overrun in the second half as Parma made life difficult for him.

LWB- Federico Dimarco- 6/10

His assist for the opening goal was a good cross from the left byline where he kept popping up time and again. Was booked for a bad challenge at the start of the second half. Was substituted a while later.

ST- Lautaro Martinez- 6/10

A rather profligate outing for the Inter skipper, who had 3 good opportunities to score. Was a peripheral figure in the second half as he was withdrawn.

ST- Marcus Thuram- 7/10

While his goal was fortuitous to say the least, it ended a goal drought that had stretched from January. Had a couple of pops but waned in influence as Parma went on the attack

Sub- Carlos Augusto- 5/10

Could have done better to close down Bernabé for Parma’s first goal. Defended well thereafter.

Sub- Joaquin Correa- 5/10

Kept the ball ticking as Inter sought to wrest back control after letting the lead slip away. Was tidy in possession as always with a 93% pass accuracy.

Sub- Davide Frattesi- 5/10

Struggled as Parma surged back into the game. Gave away the ball quite a few times.

Sub- Nicola Zalewski- 5/10

Spent most of his time in the middle defending as Parma were on the attack. Did it well enough.

Sub- Marko Arnautovic- N/A

A late sub. Did not make much of an impact

Manager- Simone Inzaghi- 6/10

The manager will be concerned with the way his team let a 2-goal cushion slip at the slightest bit of pressure. Not a good sign as Bayern loom large in midweek.

Sportsdunia Player of the match goes to Ange-Yoan Bonny.
