Alexandre Lacazette got his first senior team call-up for the Olympique Lyonnais under Claude Puel; however, he was on the bench for a long time, and on July 5, 2010, he finally made his debut for the senior team in the Ligue 1 match against Auxerre. He also made it into the limelight and was praised by the media during his first season. Lacazette scored a goal against Paris Saint-Germain in the 2014 Coupe de la Ligue final; however, his side lost the final by 2-1. In September 2018, Lacazette signed a two-year contract extension with the club.
In May 2017, Lacazette made his move to the North London side, Arsenal. However, according to some transfer rumors, Lacazette was linked with Atletico Madrid, and made a verbal agreement with them. On 5 July 2017, Lacazette signed a reported five-year deal for Premier League club Arsenal for a club record fee. On August 6, 2017, Lacazette made his first appearance for Arsenal in the 2017 FA Community Shield against Chelsea. Despite hitting the post midway through the first half, Arsenal eventually won 4–1 on penalties after the game ended 1–1 at full time. On 9 June 2022, Lacazette returned to Lyon, signing a three-year contract with the club. He scored his first goal of his second tenure with the club from the penalty spot against Ajaccio in a 2–1 home win on 5 August 2022. Lacazette played his final game for Lyon FC on May 17, 2025, where he scored a brace in a 2–0 victory over Angers, scoring both his 200th and 201st goals for the club.
Lacazette has featured for all of France's national youth teams, making his debut in the team's 2–0 victory over Cameroon on 3 April 2007 at the Montaigu Tournament. With the under-18 team, Lacazette made his debut in the team's match against Ukraine. On 23 May 2013, Lacazette received his first call-up to the senior squad following the withdrawal of Jérémy Ménez through injury. He made his international debut on 5 June, as a 58th-minute substitute for Olivier Giroud in a 0–1 friendly defeat against Uruguay at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo. Despite being so talented, he did not get so much game time in the senior team.
