IND vs SL 2025

India and Sri Lanka share a very close bond in terms of cricketing relations. Teams from both countries have played several matches against each other over the years and have thoroughly entertained the fans. However, both teams haven't played each other in a bilateral series for the last few years.

The reason is unknown, but India have preferred to play bigger teams like Australia and England during these years, both home and away. Recently, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has officially approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to sanction a white-ball series in August. The series could be held in the place of another tour, which was cancelled some days ago.

Is there any Chance for IND vs SL 2025 White Ball Series?

India were originally scheduled to tour Bangladesh in August 2025. But both the BCCI and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to postpone the series to 2026. The new dates for the Bangladesh tour will be announced later. Considering this opening in the schedule, Sri Lanka saw a chance to host India. If the BCCI agrees, the matches will be played in Sri Lanka during the same time slot.

The proposed IND vs SL 2025 series includes six matches, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 Internationals (T20Is). These are the same number of games India was set to play in Bangladesh from August 17 to 31. So far, the BCCI has not replied to the request, and a final decision is expected soon. The BCCI is also busy deciding on the Asia Cup schedule, and that decision will likely influence their answer to Sri Lanka’s request.

Return of Rohit Sharma Virat Kohli Expected

If the series in Sri Lanka happens, Indian cricket fans might see the return of Rohit Sharma Virat Kohli. Both star players have retired from the Test and T20I formats and are only active in ODIs. If the BCCI says yes to Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to play in ODIs. These two senior players are still important in 50-over cricket. The duo recently featured in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where India won the trophy.
A close source of the BCCI recently spoke with Cricbuzz and stated that everything depends on the Asia Cup schedule. “There is a request from SLC, but we have not decided anything yet. We need to see what happens with the Asia Cup. Everything is connected,” the official said.

This means that both the Sri Lanka series and the Asia Cup could happen. But the BCCI wants to talk to players and coaches before making any decisions.
Reportedly, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia is in London this week for the third Test match between India and England at Lord’s. During this time, he will speak with head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and senior players.

Asia Cup 2025 Updates

Notably, the Asia Cup schedule is from September 10 to 28 this year. It was previously reported that the BCCI will be officially hosting the event while the tournament will be conducted in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In the championship, India is expected to lock horns with their archrivals, Pakistan, and considering the political tensions between the two countries, the schedule and other details of the Asia Cup 2025 have not been declared yet. However, a final call is expected within two to three days.

The next few days will be crucial for India’s calendar. The BCCI is expected to speak with the players and coaches, along with the government, about the Asia Cup 2025. Once the decisions on the continental tournament are made, a call on Sri Lanka’s request will be taken.

If approved, fans could see India in action in Sri Lanka next month. And if that happens, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli may be back in blues sooner than expected!
