Sparks vs Valkeries Game Witnessed Traded Kelsey Plum Create WNBA History

Kelsey Plum Season Opener Record

Kelsey Plum was on a heater for her debut game for the Los Angeles Sparks. In the season opener game against the Golden State Valkyries, Plum finished the night scoring 37 points, breaking the record for most points scored by a player making their debut with a WNBA team.

The Los Angeles Sparks clinched an enthralling 84-67 road victory, all thanks to Kelsey Plum's scorching scoring. Alongside Minnesota Lynx's Napheesa Collier, Plum also broke the record for the most number of points in a WNBA season opener game.

Plum's box score was 37 points, two rebounds, and six assists at the end of the night while Sparks center Dearica Hamby added 14 points and 10 rebounds to this road win. Plum's season opener stat has surpassed the records previously held by league legends such as Maya Moore, Candace Parker, and Katie Smith.

On the other hand, Lynx's Napheesa Collier also scored 34 points in the season opener against the Dallas Wing. The Lynx dominated the young Wings team, getting an easy 84-99 win over Paige Bueckers and co. However, just moments after this, Plum broke the record with her 37-point game.

Now that Kelsey Plum has been a puzzle fit for the Sparks, will the Las Vegas Aces regret getting her traded? Here, we try to evaluate the same.

Will Las Vegas Aces Regret Getting Kelsey Plum Traded?

This year's off-season was nothing less than enthralling for the WNBA fans. Some of the franchise superstars such as Kelsey Plum and Jewell Loyd are not with the teams fans are used to them playing for.

In a blockbuster three-way trade, Kelsey Plum landed with the Los Angeles Sparks while Jewell Loyd from the Seattle Storm went to the Las Vegas Aces. Seattle received the 2025 No.2 pick, using which they picked Dominique Malonga in this year's draft.

During the time when she was traded, Plum was asked about the trade wherein she took subtle digs at her former team. Plum has won two championship with the Aces and has been a crucial part of Vegas' championship core alongside A'ja Wilson. After arriving at Sparks, Plum said, “[The Sparks] have not just met but exceeded my expectations. I’ve been treated better than I’ve ever been as a WNBA player."

This was quite uncanny to hear, given Plum had thanked the Aces in a heartfelt Instagram post on January 31. But seems like Vegas is ready to move on from their former star guard already. As coach Becky Hammon made it clear, Vegas is expecting drastic roster changes after failing to three-peat last season. Coach Hammon had insinuated the same last year in October when she said, “It’s not going to be the same group probably next year, it just won’t. And I’m sad about that because I really liked that group.”

It's still hard to say how Kelsey Plum's absence is going to impact the Aces as it is too early in the season. However, with Kelsey Plum now with the Sparks, LA will now surely try to improve their record from last season into contending for playoffs.
