FC 26 provides two separate gameplay types: Competitive and Authentic. Competitive gameplay is tuned for fast-paced, high-intensity action for online modes like FUT Champions and Division Rivals. Authentic gameplay is designed to reproduce football as it is played in the real world (natural movement, weighting, and animation). Authentic gameplay is perfect for Career Mode, Kick-Off, and licensed tournaments.

EA has upgraded the core of FC 26 for a more fluid, believable experience. Every animation, both on and off the ball, has been improved to reflect human movement more accurately, which also impacts how players dribble, pass, shoot, and challenge for possession - now all grounded in physics-based realism.

Goalkeepers demonstrate an added benefit of the new Real Life Positioning, which also provides a better sense of logic for catching, parrying, or punching the ball. In this case, they are now affected by the proximity of the attacker and what position of their body as they approach.

The animations are cleaner, which gives the keepers more direction, responsiveness, and reaction time in tight sequences. The same benefit applies to the manual “Be-A-Goalkeeper” mode, which provides even more control and realism.

Defending

Defensive maneuvers in FC 26 have been taken quite seriously. New logic assists defenders in reacting more quickly when challenged with a loose ball and 1v1 duels. Contested Box Outs allow a strong and engaged defender to block the attacker's movements. Shield Trap is freely floating and allows players to absorb pressure when receiving the ball.
