Why Abishek Porel is Not in Bengal Squad For Ranji Trophy 2026-27?

Bengal have announced their squad for the upcoming season of Ranji Trophy, starting from October 11, 2026. The squad has several star-studded players who have done well in domestic cricket.

But the absence of the wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel came as a surprise for a few fans. Porel has been first-choice wicketkeeper for Bengal over the last few seasons across formats. He was also Bengal's vice-captain during the last season of Ranji Trophy.

Why Abishek Porel is Not in Bengal Squad?

Abishek Porel has not been included in Bengal squad for Ranji Trophy due to the allegations of rape, assault, and sexual harrassment on him a few days earlier. He was later arrested and placed in judicial custody after a criminal complaint was filed against him.

As a result, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) didn't consider him for selection for the upcoming domestic season. He won't be considered until he is proved completely innocent and all the legal proceedings are over.

Not just the Ranji Trophy, Porel, one of the best wicketkeepers in India, also didn't find a place in Bengal's white-ball team, which is his favorite format. It comes down as a huge blow when the youngster's career was just beginning to shine.

What Happened to Abishek Porel?

The incident happened a few days ago when a medical student put serious allegations on Abishek Porel and accused him of false marriage promise. According to the woman, she was in a relationship with the Bengal keeper for close to three-and-a-half years and both of them were about to marry as well.

She also claims that Porel assaulted her on the false claims of marriage and developed a physical relationship with her. The left-handed batter was arrested after the Calcutta High Court directed the police and asked to seize his electronic devices (mobile phone, laptop etc.) as well.

Meanwhile, Abishek Porel has denied all these allegations and dismissed the charges put against him. However, he will be out of action until the investigation is over and he is proved innocent.
