Minecraft: A Guide to Crafting, Biomes And More

If you're a game lover, you must have heard about the Minecraft game. Ever-present in the gaming spaces since 2011, this game is very popular among all age groups. From your favorite celebrity to favored influencers, everyone has tried this and streams this game regularly. So, What is Minecraft Exactly?

Minecraft is what we would call a Sandbox block game. This means you can explore the world freely without having to worry about narratives and objectives that limit you to a structure. You can also choose to be competitive because the game provides different modes where you can either compete directly or explore your creative brain and relax. In this Guide, we'll cover the various aspects of Minecraft, including crafting, Biomes, and explain the gameplay and minimum system requirements that will enhance your experience.

Minecraft Overview

Originally built in 2011 for PC, Minecraft has evolved into six editions to date, with the Bedrock Edition being the most popular and downloaded. The Main focus of this game is to let the player enjoy themselves and choose their Destiny. You can be dropped into any random world and explore the open grounds. Minecraft also focuses on building things, so if you're interested in some relaxation time where you can build your village and construct different items for yourself, this is the game for you.

Another great aspect of the game lies in its different modes. If you want to master anything or just build a creation aimlessly, you can choose the Creative Mode. But, if you want to learn survival skills with a little bit of stakes, the Survival Mode is there for you. Up the Stakes a bit more, and you've got the Hardcore mode. These features allow the game to be versatile throughout the experience and give you the chance to explore the open world of Minecraft.

Minecraft Gameplay

Minecraft has simple gameplay. This helps beginners adapt to the new interface. Not only is it useful for entertainment, the Minecraft: Education Edition is also used to teach different subjects in schools. We'll explain the basics of what to expect in this game.

  • Open-World: Minecraft is an open-world game, which means you can explore the whole game without having any restrictions on where to go. You will get assigned a player figure, through which you can see the world. The game drops you into a random world with no resources and different health bars. The only exception to health bars is Creative Mode
  • Blocks: Everything in Minecraft is block-based. This means you can make blocks or break blocks, depending on your survival intentions. You can extract minerals, stones, and many more by breaking these blocks using various tools.
  • Mining: Mining is one of the main gameplay elements of Minecraft. You can use various tools to extract ore, iron, Redstone, and other important minerals to make items necessary for survival, such as a furnace.
  • Crafting: This method allows the player to create new tools using the items they have in their inventory. You can use different types of wood and iron and mix them to make a hammer or an axe. The crafting table is a 3x3 grid table where you can make new objects using the crafting recipe book.
  • Survival: As mentioned earlier, the Minecraft game has 3 bars of health, hunger, and Inventory. Aside from the creative mode, these are the bars you need to look after. The hunger bar can restore your health, so it's important to keep eating.
  • Building: Building is the main thing in Minecraft. If you want to be safe from outside elements and mobs looting you, you need to build homes, armor, and many other objects to help you survive.
  • Exploration: The best part of the game is that you can explore multiple areas and biomes with different living conditions.
  • Mobs and Combats: While the gaming can be easygoing for a time, this can change if you enter a more difficult level with a different style of play. Hostile mobs are creatures and wild animals that can attack you in the wild, so you can use armor and swords to protect yourself and fight the monsters.
  • Multiplayer: The Minecraft game provides a multiplayer option where you can play with multiple players and build something together.

Minecraft Biomes

Biomes are different environments with their own flora and fauna. Some of them have high unlivable qualities and present with difficult conditions. There are more than 60 Biomes in Minecraft and can be classified into broad categories such as:

  • Highland: These Biomes have a different range of categories, including hills, forests, swamps, and Jungles.
  • Plainlands: the most suitable for growing crops and fauna, they are greenery-filled lands with no high hills or ocean levels.
  • Badlands: The badlands are wastelands with arid weather and sand for miles. They resemble waste spaces and deserts.
  • Wetlands: These are areas with riversides and a source of water nearby, helping the land keep its moisture.
  • Underland: This description refers to the oceans and creatures under water, in particular, this contains warm ocean, cold ocean, frozen ocean, and many more.
  • Nether Biomes and The End Biomes: These are special Minecraft biomes you can reach using portals. The nether world is a hellish swamp filled with lava and creatures, while the end world has the Ender Dragon and a million islands to discover.

Minecraft Mobs

Mobs or mobile entities are different kinds of creatures, living beings that roam around the Minecraft world. They can be harmless or attack you, depending on the creature's nature. This might include animals, monsters, and other living creatures working on AI programming. Some of the categories we can divide them into are:

  • Passive Mobs: These are passive creatures that don't attack you and can be mostly tamed. Some of the examples are Horses, camels, Cats, etc. They won't attack you even if you provoke them.
  • Neutral Mobs: These are creatures that won't attack you unless provoked. For example, Goats, Foxes, ducks, etc. Some of them can be naturally hostile and have special ways of provoking them into a fight.
  • Hostile Mobs: These creatures often spawn in dark places and will attack you on sight. For example, Zombies, Endermite, Ender Dragon, etc.
  • Utility Mobs: These Mobs have special roles in villages and the economy. For example, a trader, villager, iron golem, etc.

There are other mobs, such as compound, unused mobs that can spawn on other mobs and can only be summoned.

Minecraft Crafting

Golden Carrot
How to make Golden Carrot ( Image Credit: Mojang )

The process of making new construction tools and necessary items by following the recipe book is called Crafting. You usually make different objects out of the items present in your inventory. Place them in the 3x3 crafting table or 2x2 crafting grid given in the game and watch the new addition come out. For most of the modes, the 2x2 crafting grid is available to make necessary tools like a pickaxe, rod, etc.

There are many things you can invent in your crafting grid, including food, armor, swords, shields, a furnace, a bed, and many more that make your stay survivable.

There are different ways to craft an object by following the recipe book. Some of the objects require perfect placements in the grid; these are called shaped recipes. Other you can put anywhere in the grid; these are called shapeless recipes. One of the pro tips is to always have a crafting table in your inventory. These can be made from four wooden planks at the start of your journey.

Minecraft Enchantments & Brewing

Enchantments are the process of enhancing the tools and armor for extra protection. Brewing is the process of creating different potions. You can brew these potions to heal faster, regenerate, strengthen, or cause damage to someone. Enchantments provide extra damage strength to your weapons, making them more powerful to fight creatures of the Nether and the End.

You can make enchantments by crafting the 4x4 enchantment table. You'll need to collect rare stones like obsidian, diamonds and books to form an enchanting table. Use those books, lapis lazuli, and the XPs to make an enchantment. For brewing, you'll need to craft a brewing stand, blazing powder, and have the necessary ingredients like water, Redstones, and other Nether elements for a strong potion.
