Konami may give a surprise to eFootball fans from India, as reports from trusted sources reveal that ISL may get officially licensed in-game. eFootball houses many top leagues, including the Malaysian league, being the latest entrant. Sources speculate that Konami is eyeing more Asian leagues after taking the rights to ACL and ACL 2 since 2021.

More Asian Leagues like ISL may feature soon in eFootball

As per one of the prominent sources in the community, @efootball_BDX, the top division league in Indian football, called the Indian Super League, could be the next in line of officially licensed leagues in eFootball. Recently, Konami has started taking more interest in Asian and South American football, with several top leagues from these two continents officially licensed in the game.

Konami appears to have shied away from European football lately due to high cost and licensing complexities. Most of the top European clubs and leagues have exclusive licensing rights with EA Sports, hence Konami is venturing into untapped markets in Asia and South America.

Interestingly, both these continents have the highest share of active eFootball users, with countries like Brazil, India and Bangladesh leading the line. Securing the league licenses here is a lot cheaper and easier.

Why ISL in eFootball appears Possible?

There are already many top Asian Leagues in eFootball, such as J1, the Korean League, and the Malaysian League, which are officially licensed. Although ISL is also licensed with EA Sports, the nature is not exclusive and that makes it possible for Konami to get a deal of their own.

eFootball has a huge market in India. Konami has released many India-specific content over the years, such as a free epic National Legend Sunil Chetri card and Holi Campaigns. A Free Show Time card of Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was also released during the spring of 2023 in eFootball.

This shows Konami's underlying interest in the Indian region. Hence, a deal between ISL and eFootball appears plausible on paper. In addition to ISL, more Asian leagues, such as the Bhutan League, may also appear in the game in the near future.
