The Esports World Cup is the biggest tournament in gaming that features multiple renowned game events. Teams from various countries around the globe gather at this biggest gaming fest to compete across games like PUBG Mobile, VALORANT, Free Fire, Overwatch 2, and more. The inaugural Esports World Cup was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2024, starting July 3 and concluding on August 25, 2024, and saw great success and praise from all around the world.

The event featured 23 tournaments across 22 games and had a massive prize pool of $62.5 million. This year's Esports World Cup 2025 is also set to take place in Saudi Arabia starting on July 8. As the inaugural event saw immense success, the prize pool of EWC 2025 has gotten a huge boost, reaching $70 million, making it the largest pool in the history of esports gaming. Before this year's World Cup begins, let's rewind to the 2024 tournament and learn about the previous year's winners.

All Esports World Cup Winners

The first edition of the Esports World Cup took place in Riyadh, featuring 22 game titles. Top teams and individual players from various countries clinched the titles in games like Call of Duty: Warzone, Free Fire, Fortnite, League of Legends, and more with dominant performances throughout the event. Saudi Arabia's home team, Team Falcons, turned out to be the overall winners of the event as they clinched the Club Championship.

What is the Club Championship?

EWC 2024 featured a cross-game competition called the Club Championship to determine the overall winner of the tournament. The top 16 teams that claimed top eight positions in at least two events and had first place in at least one competition were eligible to participate in the Club Club Championship. Apex Legends

The Apex Legends tournament in EWC 2024 saw 32 teams participating to take home the prize money of $600,000. The Sweden-based esports team Alliance clinched the title after a thrilling performance in the Grand Finale. They were the first team to reach the 60-point threshold, delivering peak entertainment for the fans with exceptional performances coming from their MVP, Hakis. The Grand Final of Apex Legends went to 13 games. Alliance ultimately turned out to be the winners with 14 kills, while Team Falcon ended up being the runner-ups.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 tournament featured 16 teams, with the Grand Final taking place between Atlanta FaZe and 100 Thieves. The LA-based organization gave a strong fight, but that wasn't enough to win the tournament. Atlanta FaZe secured a brilliant victory with a score of 4-2. Cellium was named the MVP of the match, who showed a performance full of skills and dominance.

Call of Duty Warzone

The Call of Duty Warzone tournament was totally dominated by the Team Falcons, who displayed tremendous individual skills, team chemistry, and amazing enthusiasm throughout the tournament. A total of eight intense matches on Rebirth Island were played in the Grand Final. Team Falcons showed commendable clutch plays and synergy that led them to the big victory. Their player Shifty, was named the MVP of the event.

Counter-Strike 2

The Counter-Strike 2 event saw an underdog team become the ultimate winner. The Ukrainian esports team Natus Vincere was not the fan favorite in the event. However, the team displayed powerful performances against various top teams and made their way to the finals. After entering the knockouts, NAVI first defeated FaZe Clan in the quarterfinals and then MOUZ in the finals. They faced one of the strongest teams of the event, G2 Esports, in the finals. Despite Niko's MVP performance for the G2 Esports, NAVI's tactical brilliance and group performance sealed the victory for them.

DOTA 2

The DOTA 2 event in the Esports World Cup 2024 was named Riyadh Masters 2024. The tournament saw Gaimin Gladiators give a strong performance with great team coordination. The Grand Finale was held between Gaimin Gladiators and Team Liquid. The teams clashed in a series of five matches, which saw the Gladiators turn the match completely one-sided. They dominated Team Liquid with a smooth 3-0 victory and were crowned champions.

EA FC 24

Portuguese player JAfonso (Luna Galaxy) became the winner of the EA FC 24 Esports World Cup 2024 event after defeating Tuzzy of E-Sports. Throughout the tournament, JAFfonso looked in great form, showcasing his tactical skills and abilities. However, the semifinal of the event brought a tough challenger for him, where he faced Brazilian player PHzin. The match even went to extra time, but the Portuguese player eventually clinched the match, reached the finals, and showed everyone who is the master of the game.

ESL R1

The ESL R1 event at the EWC 2024 included two competitions: Team Championship and Driver Championship. Team Redline won the team championships by leaving behind Team Vitality and MOUZ. Their victory became more special as their driver, Kevin Siggy, won the Individual Driver Championship by displaying great skills and consistency.

Fortnite

The Fortnite tournament at the EWC 2024 was played in a 4v4 format. The Grand Finale saw XSET and Exceed battling to claim the Fortnite throne. Both teams delivered strong performances. However, it was XSET who claimed the win in the end with a series score of 4-2.

Free Fire

The home team, Team Falcon, clinched the title at the Free Fire event. Despite delivering average performances in the initial stages of the matches, the team managed to pull off a powerful comeback in the six matches of the grand final and leave all the teams behind to secure the win. The most notable thing about the event was that Buriram United Esports' player Moshi was named MVP of the event. Although his team finished 4th in the event, Moshi was rewarded for his remarkable individual performance.

Honor of Kings

The Honor of Kings Invitational Midseason 2024 event featured the top 12 teams. The event was dominated by China's KPL team, which consisted of the best players from their country. In the grand finale, they faced LGD Gaming MY and scored a 3-0 clean sweep win by showing their aggressive playstyle.

League of Legends

One of the best Korean esports teams, T1, came out as the winners of the League of Legends event at EWC 2024. The road to the grand finale was not easy for them, as they had big challenges in the knockout stages of the event. After crossing the hurdles of the knockout stage, they delivered a fantastic performance in the finals and secured a convincing 12-4 win over Top Esports. Their team player, Faker, was named the MVP of the event.

Mobile Legends MSC Championship

The MLBB Mid Season Cup event at the EWC 2024 saw the Malaysian team Selangor Red Giants make history. They defeated the reigning champions Falcons AP.Bren in the finals by showcasing an exceptional clutch performance. Their player Sekys was named the MVP of the event, who made a significant contribution to the team's victory.

Mobile Legends Women’s Championship

Philippines-based Esports team Omega Empress shocked everyone by defeating the three-time reigning champions, Team Vitality, in the finals of the MLBB Women's Invitational 2024 final. Their spectacular performance in the best-of-five series in the finals led to a 3-0 clean sweep over Team Vitality.

Overwatch 2

The South Korean team Crazy Raccoon looked quite dominant right from the start of the event and delivered strong performances. They faced Toronto Ultra in the finals and claimed an easy win with a score of 4-1. Shu was named the MVP of the event.

PUBG Mobile World Cup

Brazil's team Alpha7Esports displayed consistency, team coordination, and strategic gameplay throughout the PUBG Mobile World Cup, which earned them the trophy along with a huge prize money. The team claimed five chicken dinners in the event, which was the most by any team during that competition. Both REJECT and Tianba also delivered good performances, but it wasn't enough to clinch the top spot.

PUBG Battlegrounds

The American Esports team Soniqs looked mediocre in the group stage, but the team made a comeback at the right time. They earned three chicken dinners in the finals and claimed the top spot, leaving behind Petrichor Road and FaZe Clan, who were in second and third position, respectively. Although TSM could only reach the 4th spot, their player, Sparkingg, was named the MVP for his praiseworthy performances throughout the event.

Rainbow Six

Team BDS looked dominant right from the start. Their strong momentum continued to the knockouts. Although they got a tough fight from FaZe Clan in the quarter-finals, BDS managed to secure a 2-1 victory. The grand final turned out to be totally one-sided as they defeated w7m esports with a 3-0 score in the series of five matches.

Rocket League

The Rocket League grand final was one to watch as it had both fan-favorite teams, Team BDS and Team Falcon. The series of seven matches initially saw Falcon take the lead, but the tables were turned soon, and Team BDS turned out to be the ultimate winners with a breathtaking victory of 4-2.

StarCraft II

The French player Clem looked outstanding right from the start of the StarCraft II event. In the semi-finals, he got a clean sweep victory over herO with a score of 4-0. He faced Serral, another convincing player of the event, in the finals. Fans expected this clash to be quite competitive, but Clem stunned everyone and secured another dominant win by 5-0.
