Summary
While the Fantasy Premier League 2025/26 is live now, its scoring journey will begin in mid-August 2025. There are many special segments in the FPL apart from its main popular global league competition. One of them is the FPL mini league, and we will know its complete details here.
Since their introduction, mini leagues within Fantasy Premier League have gradually gained popularity for their unique value to the FPL managers. It is simpler than the global leagues, but it has different categories with significant differences, which should be known properly before starting any project.
What is FPL Mini League?
The FPL mini league is a popular group league that can be played under the FPL global league.
After creating the 15-member FPL squad, the managers are automatically entered into the global leagues. However, there are mini leagues, which can bring different kinds of challenges for the manager. The mini leagues have been introduced to create separate challenges between friends, colleagues, and other specific communities, etc.
Unlike the global leagues, the number of managers is much lower in the mini leagues, especially in the private mini leagues. While many managers were previously frustrated due to regular poor performances in the FPL, the mini leagues became a saviour for them.
Types of FPL Mini Leagues
There are two types of mini leagues: Classic leagues and Head-to-Head leagues. These have been named based on the scoring differences, which we will discuss below.
Both Classic and Head-to-Head leagues are available under public and private leagues. All leagues can be started at any time during the entire season. A private league is also officially known as an 'Invitational League'. So, the FPL officially calls the leagues Invitational Classic leagues and Invitational Head-to-Head leagues. Meanwhile, the public leagues are known as Public Classic leagues and Public Head-to-Head leagues.
- Special Note: A manager can enter up to 30 private mini-leagues.
Classic League
Classic League follows the common global league scoring system. It can be started before any gameweek of an FPL season. The ranks are decided according to the overall points of the season. However, there is also another segment in the same league, where monthly ranks are available that run each calendar month of the season.
For all private classic leagues, there is one automatic cup tournament available, which typically starts Gameweek 17 (starting time depends on the size of the league, which can run till Gameweek 38). The cup runs in a knockout format, while its elimination is limited only to the cup, not to the related private classic league.
Head-to-Head League
Fantasy Premier League mini leagues also have a separate Head-to-Head league. Every team in the Head-to-Head league plays against another team in each round of the league.
The match result is calculated on the team’s score in the round minus any transfer points spent for the same round. The schedule of the Head-to-Head League is generated at the start of the first round of the league. Each of these leagues can have a manager size from two to unlimited. Also, as per choice, it can have multiple knockout rounds.
Just like the Classic League, it can be started at any time of an FPL season, and there is no elimination, only generating the winners in the head-to-head battles of each round. At the end of the season, the points table leader becomes the winner of the league.
However, the created Head-to-Head League is locked once the schedule has been generated, which means a manager can neither join nor leave the league.
