Former Chilean and Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal and players from his hometown club Colo-Colo are under suspicion of sexual assault. The purported incident took place at a nightclub in Chile’s capital, Santiago where a group of players were celebrating a birthday.
Vidal who has scored 34 goals in 142 appearances with the Chilean national squad was summoned by the police for a verification process and so far no one has been arrested according to an official.
The incident was reported by the victim’s sister who claimed players from Colo-Colo were involved in the gang assault of a young woman. Arturo Vidal did not comment on the incident after his release.
“He was at the police station as part of the initial procedures and inquiries. This was conducted under the guise of an investigative identity verification, and afterwards he was able to continue with his activities,” clarified Gerardo Aravena, a local police colonel.
