A tragic piece of news has shattered the Ghanaian footballing world as Berekum Chelsea FC attacker Dominic Frimpong was killed during an armed robbery of the club's team bus on Monday. The 20-year-old was in transit with his team when armed robbers attacked the vehicle after blocking the road to prevent them from safe passage.

The first team players were returning from an away clash in the Ghana ‌Premier League against Samartex in Samreboi, located in southern Ghana. The Ghana Football Association released a statement while commiserating the sad development involving Berekum Chelsea FC and Dominic Frimpong death:

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has received with profound shock and deep sorrow the tragic news of the passing of Dominic Frimpong of Berekum Chelsea Football Club. Dominic Frimpong reportedly lost his life following an armed robbery attack on the team while the club was returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture. The incident has sent shockwaves across the entire football fraternity. The GFA extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, his teammates, technical staff, management, and all at Berekum Chelsea during this extremely difficult time,” the GFA said in a statement.

Ghana Police Service and GFA Working Closely On The Investigation

The Ghanaian football's apex body also revealed they are working closely with the relevant authorities, including the Ghana Police Service. The top body is cooperating with the investigation and keen to uncover the circumstances behind this unfortunate incident and Frimpong's passing.

The GFA has reiterated that it will engage with key stakeholders to review and strengthen security arrangements for clubs traveling for domestic competitions in the future. It has also called for the unification of the entire footballing community in mourning the passing of a promising young player with a bright future, alongside his loved ones, during this difficult time.
