“Maybe she’s cheering me on from up there”: Frattesi pays emotional tribute to late Grandmother after scoring winning goal against Bayern

Davide Frattesi sent a message to his grandmother, who had recently died, as he netted the decisive goal in Inter’s 1-2 victory against Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday.

Thomas Muller believed he had secured a draw for Bayern Munich by equalizing Lautaro Martinez‘s opening goal with an 85th-minute header, but Davide restored Inter’s advantage just three minutes later to give them the upper hand in the quarter-final matchup of the Champions League. The Nerazzurri launched a counterattack with Carlos Augusto, who found Frattesi, and the Italian midfielder did not falter as he sent the ball into the net.

The goal served not only as a significant boost for Inter’s aspirations to reach the semi-finals, but it also held personal meaning for Davide. The 25-year-old was emotional after scoring the decisive goal, explaining after the match that it was because of the recent loss of his grandmother. “I know you pulled some strings up there,” Frattesi shared on his social media platforms following the match, dedicating his goal to his ‘nonna’.

“I always thought nothing and no one could shake me. But when I was faced with this, I felt lost,” Frattesi added as he spoke to ‘Sky Sports’ post-match. “It was tough, I wasn’t used to seeing her like that. I think tonight she had a hand in it, for sure she shouted something down to me from above.”

Thanks to his goal, Inter are heavy favourites to go on and win the tie. Davide, however, has had a mixed time at the San Siro since moving there as a free agent in the summer and it is widely believed that he will look at other options when the transfer window opens again.

AS Roma are one of the strongest candidates for his signature as the former Sassuolo man was once a part of their youth system.
