Jonny Evans confirmed his retirement from professional football at the end of the 2024/25 season, with his contract with the club expiring on June 30, 2025. The Old Trafford hierarchy has now confirmed Jonny Evans new role at the club, appointing him as Man United head of loans and pathways in what marks his first job after wrapping up his playing career. As part of this new opportunity, Jonny Evans will be tasked with arranging loan moves for young players and finding the ideal clubs for them to work on their development. Along with this, Evans will also work on completing the final stages of his UEFA A coaching license credentials.

Jonny Evans will also be working closely with Manchester United Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, as well as the director of the academy, to help young players prepare to play for the Manchester United senior team.

Jonny Evans new role at Man United is similar to one held by Josh Marsch at Chelsea, and ex-England forward Carlton Cole, who is currently working as West Ham United loans manager, with the two being responsible for arranging loan moves for young players and tracking their progress at the respective clubs. During his time in charge, Evans will thoroughly evaluate the improvement of youth academy graduates and push them to bigger challenges, which will help them grow as professional footballers.
