“To Win the Premier League You Need…” Reveals Former Manchester United Star Wayne Rooney

This season has been a disappointing one for Arsenal on the attacking front with consecutive injuries for the forwards in recent times. The Gunners have played the season without a recognised striker as there were links with the likes of Victor Osimhen and Omar Marmoush during the transfer window. After the 1-1 draw against Manchester United, former Red Devils striker Wayne Rooney felt that the absence of a striker might have caused Arsenal a big loss in pursuit of the premier league title.

“I always feel the teams with the best number of nines have the best chance of winning things,” said Rooney to a media channel. He added, “Liverpool are probably an exception to that, with the way they rotate the player they use through the middle, rather than having a regular number nine that the team is built around.”

Despite playing one more game than Arsenal, Liverpool has scored 17 more league goals this season than the latter. This is a straightforward but striking fact. Midfielder Mikel Merino has been forced to step in as an emergency striker for Mikel Arteta‘s team, as he did against United, but with little success, as Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and another important attacker, Bukayo Saka, all out for the season.

United’s record goal scorer explained, ” A proper number nine- a forward who has played there his whole life- brings something different to any team.” He emphasized that the natural goalscoring instinct is what the team has been lacking.

Rooney gave examples of the forwards of Arne Slot‘s side. He said, “Mohamed Salah, cutting in from wide areas, is their main goal scorer but, whether it is Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, or Darwin Nunez in the center, they all chip in with a good amount of goals.”

The game at the Old Trafford was Mikel Arteta’s 200th Premier League game as Arsenal’s manager which ended as a disappointing draw for the Gunners, who did not perform well. This draw leaves them far behind Slot’s men, who will look to run away with the title after pretty little competition given the other big teams.
