Why are Peterborough United Football Club Nicknamed 'The Posh'?

Peterborough United Football Club is nicknamed "The Posh" due to a historical comment made in 1921, before the club was officially founded in 1934. The name originated from Pat Tirrel, former manager of Fletton United, the predecessor to Peterborough United. The then-manager in a statement said, "I am looking for posh players for a posh team."

The statement meant he was looking for players with style and unique talent in his team. The term "posh," meaning elegant or high-class, stuck with the club and became a defining part of its identity.
