Thomas Tuchel Shares BIG Update on Nick Pope, Gordon and KEY Defender for England Duty

The England national football team hopes to maintain their 100% win streak in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania in the November 2025 international break. However, before the England vs Serbia clash, Thomas Tuchel has had some setbacks in his team because of the recent Nick Pope Injury, Marc Guehi injury, and Anthony Gordon injury.

Thomas Tuchel Gets England Injury Setback With Multiple Players

As Thomas Tuchel is aiming to maintain England's win streak in the next World Cup qualifiers, he suffered a blow as three important players picked up injuries before the matches. The latest to happen was the Nick Pope injury, which took place in Newcastle United's 3-1 loss to Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday (November 9, 2025). Eddie Howe confirmed the Nick Pope injury after the loss, stating, “Nick Pope suffered a concussion, and that's why we took him off. As soon as we were made aware of that, he was withdrawn.”

Because footballers aren't allowed to play matches immediately after concussions, Nick Pope has been forced to withdraw from England duty. However, he's not the only Newcastle United player to do so. That is because the Anthony Gordon injury has also dealt a blow to Tuchel, who will be missing the exciting winger for the next two games. The Anthony Gordon injury happened in Newcastle's recent win over Athletic Bilbao in the UEFA Champions League, when he suffered a hip injury and ended up missing the Brentford trip for Newcastle. The English winger has also been forced to opt out of England duty because of his issue.

The Marc Guehi injury happened in Crystal Palace's recent win over AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa Conference League, in which he played the entire 90 minutes. Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner gave a worrying update on his injury recently, stating, “He can't even walk at the moment, so the last two days he was on crutches. That's why he can't play. I don't know how this develops over the next couple of days. At the moment, it looks like he can't play for England as well.”

How Will Thomas Tuchel Cope After England Players Injury Setback?

After suffering all these injury blows before the England vs Serbia clash, Thomas Tuchel has now been dealt a new headache. He will, of course, need to name the replacements for these players right before the beginning of the international camp. With that being said, there are enough quality talents in his squad to make up for the absence of Guehi, Gordon, and Pope.

The Nick Pope injury will probably ensure Jordan Pickford plays in both the England vs Serbia and Albania vs England clashes. The Marc Guehi injury will be gutting as he's developed into a key centre-back for the Three Lions, but John Stones can probably lead the defensive line in his absence. The Anthony Gordon injury could be good news for the in-form Marcus Rashford, who should start England's next two games after shining for Barcelona in the 2025/26 season.
