Liverpool Confirm Virgil van Dijk Contract Extension Until 2027

Liverpool has finally managed to get their star defender to sign the contract extension after a month-long tussle. The last few months have seen a surge in speculation regarding a few key Liverpool players over whether or not the club captain would sign an extension or leave as a free agent. But every single speculation was put to the ground as the Dutchman agreed to an extension that will keep him at Anfield Stadium until 2027.

What a day it is for all Liverpool fans, after Mohamed Salah’s fresh contract extension a few days ago, to their star defender’s decision to stay. After a frustrating 3-2 defeat against Fulham on April 6th, he disclosed that the contract extension talks were progressing. The Reds’ star defender has been vocal about his love for the club.

Virgil van Dijk shared his honest views during an exclusive interview with Liverpoolfc.com, “There are so many emotions obviously that go through my head right now speaking about it. He stated, “It’s a proud feeling, it’s a feeling of joy. It’s just incredible. The journey I’ve had so far in my career, to be able to extend it with another two years at this club is amazing and I’m so happy.”

With 314 games for the club, he has been one of the main players for his team, whether it was under Jurgen Klopp or Arne Slot. Under Arne Slot, the 33-year-old defender is having one of his best seasons in the Premier League. Liverpool only need six points in six remaining games to win the record-equalling Premier League trophy.

Virgil van Dijk’s contract extension will keep him at the club until 2027. Although the exact terms or contract extension details have not been disclosed to the public yet but it will be available to everyone in a few hours or so. The last Virgil van Dijk contract was set to guarantee him £200,000 per week and the same is expected to be offered to him for the extension as well, while a performance-based could spike it up to £400,000 per week.

Van Dijk said, “It was always Liverpool. That was the case. It was always in my head, it was always the plan and it was always Liverpool. There wasn’t any doubt in my head that this is the place to be for me and my family. I’m one of Liverpool. Someone called me the other day an adopted Scouser – I’m really proud to hear these things, it gives me a great feeling.”
