Who is Khalid Jamil?

Khalid Jamil, born in Kuwait to Indian Punjabi parents, grew up idolising Michel Platini. He began his football journey with Mahindra United at 20 before joining Air India. At a later stage of his career, he joined Mumbai FC and played a handful of matches. He has even represented the national team on 40 occasions and scored four goals for the Blue Tigers during his time as a player.

After retiring early, he started his coaching journey with Mumbai FC. After a successful stint at the Maharashtra outfit, he was asked to join Aizawl FC in 2016. In his maiden season as a coach at the I League, he did wonders when an underdog Aizawl went on to surprise the nation after they won the I League. After serving as the head coaches of Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, he then went on to become an assistant coach at North East United FC.

After Gerard Nus' departure, Khalid stepped in as interim coach and became the first Indian coach to take an ISL side to the semi-finals. He later went on to ply his trade with Chitwan in the Nepal Super League.

After Jamshedpur FC mutually parted ways with Scott Cooper, Jamil took charge. In his maiden season at JFC as a full-time coach, he continued his magical spell, and the Red Miners went on to reach the semi-finals of the ISL. Khalid also took them to the finals of the Kalinga Super Cup.
