Armenia is set to lock horns with Georgia in the final qualification round of the UEFA Nations League on Thursday at the Vargen Sargsyan Republican Stadium. The winner of this clash will secure their place in the second division of this competition.

Armenia endured a mixed campaign in the third tier of the Nations League finishing second in the group c having accumulated seven points from six matches to earn themselves a playoff spot. In a group comprising of North Macedonia, Faroe Islands, and Latvia, many expected them to fight for the top spot and get promoted to the second tier. However, they could only manage to together two wins, one draw, and losing another three. Although they have scored eight goals from six matches, their defensive shape has led them having concede nine goals in those matches with only Latvia conceding more than them.

Georgia on the other hand also endured a tough run in the B division after being drawn against Czechia, Ukraine, and Albania. With emerging talents like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Georges Mikautadze in their ranks, many expected them to fight for the top spot after their impressive performance in the UEFA Euro. However, they could only manage to finish in third gathering seven points in six matches having secured two wins, one draw, and losing another three. This clash will be crucial for them as this will decide their fate for next season.

Willy Sagnol has a big decision to make because two of their key players Guram Kashia and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are suspended for this match serving a one-game suspension after picking up the maximum yellow cards in the competition so far. Luka Latsabidze has also received his first call-up to the national side after impressing the coach with his performance in the youth setup.

This run of form saw him secure a big-money move to Lyon where he has scored 13 goals this term. Mikautadze also has a tremendous 2024 with the Georgia national team having appeared for them 21 times in which he has found the back of the net ten times. With Khvicha Kvaratskhelia suspended for this clash, Mikautadze will have to be at his brilliant best to help the team take a comfortable lead to the second leg.
