Cameroon vs Kenya Preview
Tournament: Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers
Date: Friday, October 11, 2024
Time: 4 pm GMT
Venue: Japoma Stadium, Cameroon
The second international break of the 2024-25 season will see the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers resume. In a top-of-the-table clash in Group J, Cameroon will host Kenya at the Japoma Stadium on Friday.
Both sides have won one and drawn one of their two games in the competition so far and have the same number of points. They also have the same goal difference of 1 but Kenya sits atop the table, having scored one more goal than Cameroon. They played out a goalless draw against Zimbabwe in their first game before beating Namibia 2-1.
Cameroon, meanwhile, beat Namibia 1-0 in their opening game and then also drew 0-0 against Zimbabwe. It’s a crucial clash between the two sides on Friday as it could potentially be the decider of who finishes at the top of the group at the end of the group stage.

Key Players to watch in Cameroon vs Kenya
Bryan Mbeumo
The right winger has been in stellar form for Brentford this season. With Ivan Toney leaving, the Bees were on the lookout for a new leader in attack and Bryan Mbeumo has certainly been that player for them.
Mbeumo has scored six goals in just seven Premier League games this season and is only behind Erling Haaland (10) in the top scorers’ list. Overall, he scored 56 goals and provided 42 assists in 208 games for the club.
For Cameroon, meanwhile, Bryan Mbeumo has made 18 senior appearances so far, scoring four goals and contributing one assist.
Michael Olunga
Michael Olunga is the Kenya national team’s main striker. He has been great for his club side Al-Duhail SC this season, scoring five goals in just four games across competitions. He scored a hat-trick in his first league game of the season and has scored in each of the last two games.
Olunga, 30, has also played for the likes of Girona and Djurgarden in the past. For Kenya, meanwhile, he has scored 26 goals and provided three assists in 51 matches across competitions. He also scored a brace against Malawi in a friendly earlier this year.
Cameroon vs Kenya Prediction
Both sides have been in the excellent form of late and will look to continue that going on Friday. Kenya are unbeaten in their last seven games across competitions, having won four and drawn three of them.
They have, however, won just one of their last four competitive games. They played out two draws against Burundi and Ivory Coast in their FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. In the AFCON Qualifiers, meanwhile, they drew against Zimbabwe and beat Namibia.
Cameroon, meanwhile, are one of the AFCON giants. They are unbeaten in their last four competitive games across competitions. Their last defeat, though, came against Nigeria in the AFCON 2024 Round of 16.
The Indomitable Lions beat Cape Verde and drew against Angola in their FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. They then beat Namibia before drawing against Zimbabwe.
While Keny have shown great promise, they are ranked 102 in the FIFA rankings while Cameroon are ranked 53. While it won’t be easy, given the form of their players and the quality, Cameroon should win this one and take the lead in the group.
Predicted Score: Cameroon 3-1 Kenya
