Colombia were held to a 0-0 draw by Peru in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez on June 6, 2025. The hosts began the game in dominant fashion, controlling the majority of the possession and trying to break the rigid Peru backline. They had a chance to open the scoring in the second minute itself, with Jhon Duran setting up a decent chance for James Rodriguez, who put his effort wide. Colombian winger Jhon Arias also had a big chance in the 11th minute after getting at the end of a cross, only to put his header wide. Peru's first real chance came in the 20th minute when Luis Advicula guided an ambitious effort just over the bar. Duran was able to get at the end of a chance two minutes later, but he put his effort well wide of the goal. The Al-Nassr forward also got at the end of an opportunity in the 39th minute, only to guide his shot well over the bar. The visitors nearly scored late in the first half, with Edison Flores being played through on goal in the 45th minute and seeing his close-range shot saved before heading into the break.
Colombia weren't really able to turn up the heat after the break, despite some key changes from the coach. Peru had a decent chance in the 69th minute as Pedro Aquino saw a shot go wide from outside the area. The Colombian substitute Luis Suarez was able to latch onto a James Rodriguez set-piece in the 79th minute but only managed to divert his effort wide.
The hosts kept pushing for a goal but were not really able to get that many chances on the goal. Kevin Castano got the ball outside the box in the 88th minute but saw his curling effort go wide of the goal. Ultimately, Peru were able to keep the hosts quiet and stopped them from scoring any goal, grinding their way to earning a 0-0 draw to leave the star-studded Colombian side frustrated. The Colombian goalkeeper didn't really have to work that much because of his side's possessional dominance. He made a few nice saves and was able to move the ball forward nicely.
RB - Daniel Munoz - 7.5/10
Munoz was quite a lively figure down the right wing for his side. He made some promising runs and was able to drive his side forward nicely, creating a few nice chances too. He was defensively sturdy too, making quite a few interceptions and winning quite a few key duels.
CB - Yerry Mina - 7/10
The 30-year-old was a commanding and reliable figure in the heart of Colombia's backline. He was able to read the opponents' moves well to make a number of key clearances and won most of his key duels as well.
CB - Davinson Sanchez - 6.5/10
Sanchez held together a relatively strong defensive line alongside Mina. He made quite a few possession recoveries and clearances and was smart in moving the ball forward nicely.
LB - Cristian Borja - 6/10
The 32-year-old produced a pretty decent performance on the left wing for his side. He popped up with a few nice possession recoveries and clearances but was not really able to create any that many chances.
CM - Jefferson Lerma - 6.5/10
The 30-year-old midfielder was a proactive figure in the midfield for his side. He read the Peru attacks well to make a number of key possession recoveries, as well as winning many duels in the midfield.
CM - Kevin Castano - 6/10
Castano helped his side dominate the majority of the possession with some slick passing in the midfield areas. He was defensively stern too by winning quite a few duels, helping his side maintain control in the game.
AM - James Rodriguez - 4.5/10
The ex-Real Madrid man lacked that special spark that was expected from him. His passing was pretty crisp, but he couldn't really create that many noteworthy chances as expected. Unable to really test the goalkeeper properly either.
RW - Jhon Arias - 5/10
The Colombian winger was able to make a few promising forward runs and also being a proactive figure on the wide areas. He made a number of key tackles and was able to swing in a few promising crosses, but nobody could at the end of his chances.
LW - Juan Hernandez - 4/10
Hernandez was not really able to get into the game properly as much as he'd wanted to. The 26-year-old completed under 10 passes in the game, being unable to get any proper shots on goal or create any chances.
CF - Jhon Duran - 3/10
The Al-Nassr had an underwhelming outing at his home ground. He wasn't able to really get the better of the Peru defenders or create any major chances for his side. Was able to get a few shots away, but unable to connect any properly and saw his effort go off-target.
SUB - Luis Suarez - 4.5/10
Suarez added some more energy levels in the Colombian frontline after coming on. He was able to get at the end of some chances but was only able to divert one decent header opportunity wide.

The 25-year-old was a pretty lively figure down the left wing after coming on. He made a few nice runs but was not able to create any major opportunities to break the Peru backline.

GK - Pedro Gallese - 6.5/10
The Orlando City goalkeeper didn't really have to do that much work in his goal. He was pretty solid with his possession recoveries and popped up with some nice stops whenever needed.
RB - Luis Advincula - 8/10
The 35-year-old defender was arguably the most resilient defender for his side. He was almost always in the right positions, using his physicality and game-reading ability to frustrate the hosts. He won a number of key duels and made multiple key tackles to keep things clean down his side.
CB - Carlos Zambrano - 7.5/10
Zambrano held together a very strong defensive line for his side, ensuring they closed down the spaces really well. He made nine clearances and won quite a few key duels to shut down the hosts' attacks and keep them at bay.
