FC Volendam vs Sparta Rotterdam Player Ratings

Summary

  • Sparta Rotterdam secured a narrow 1-0 victory in the match against FC Volendam.
  • Tobias Lauritsen was the man of the match for scoring the decisive penalty.
  • Gibson Yah was the worst performer after conceding the game-deciding penalty.

Sparta Rotterdam deserved the win, but they made hard work of it. They dominated the ball and peppered the FC Volendam goal, but they found goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen in inspired form. He was simply immense. The game felt destined for a frustrating 0-0 draw, a testament to Volendam's grit and Sparta Rotterdam's lack of a cutting edge despite their many chances.

The entire match hinged on one moment. A clumsy challenge in the box. Shunsuke Mito, who was a livewire all evening, drew the foul, and it was a stonewall penalty. From there, it was all on Tobias Lauritsen's shoulders. He stepped up with ice in his veins and slotted it home, sealing a crucial 1-0 victory in this Eredivisie encounter.

A tough pill to swallow for Volendam, who fought so hard but were undone by a single mistake. You could see the frustration on their faces at the final whistle. This match was a classic example of how fine the margins are in football, and a huge three points for the visitors. Here are Sportsdunia's FC Volendam vs Sparta Rotterdam player ratings.

Sparta Rotterdam Player Ratings vs FC Volendam

Check out the Sparta Rotterdam player ratings for the FC Volendam vs Sparta Rotterdam fixture.

Goalkeeper

Joël Drommel - 8.0: A really commanding performance from the keeper. He made five crucial saves, four of them from inside the box, which kept his side level. What stood out to us was his concentration, as he wasn't busy the entire game but was alert when called upon. He claimed the ball well and his distribution was decent enough. A well-earned clean sheet for him.

Defenders

Shurandy Sambo - 6.0: A difficult first half for the defender. He picked up an early yellow card, which seemed to affect his aggression for the rest of his time on the pitch. He was hooked at halftime after struggling to make a significant impact. Lost a few duels and just didn't look comfortable. An off day for him.

Marvin Young - 7.0: Solid and dependable at the back. His 94% pass accuracy shows how calm he was in possession, often starting attacks from deep. He made a very impressive seven clearances, dealing with danger effectively. He was a quiet but very effective part of that defensive unit. Didn't do anything flashy, just did his job well.

Bruno Martins Indi - 7.0: The captain led by example before being substituted. He was composed on the ball and won all of his ground duels, showing his experience. He even got a header on target from a set-piece. His departure seemed tactical to shore things up, but he was solid during his 75 minutes. A proper captain's display.

Teo Quintero - 7.5: We were really impressed with Quintero's all-around game. Defensively, he was robust, winning six duels and making four clearances. But he also offered a threat going forward, creating two chances with a couple of key passes. It's that kind of two-way contribution that makes a fullback so valuable. He was a constant outlet on the flank.

Midfielders

Julian Baas - 7.0: A very busy performance. He was the main source of crosses with eight attempts and had four shots himself. However, what stood out was his wastefulness in possession, losing the ball 12 times. He was always involved and trying to make things happen, but the final product wasn't quite there. An energetic but slightly frustrating display.

Mitchell van Bergen - 7.5: He was the creative spark for his team during his time on the pitch. He created four chances and delivered four key passes, constantly probing the Volendam defence. His crossing was particularly dangerous. He was a real handful and it was a surprise to see him subbed off, but he'd clearly put in a massive shift.

Joshua Kitolano - 6.5: A mixed bag from Kitolano. He was fantastic in the tackle, winning an incredible seven out of eight duels which is an immense effort. However, his performance was marred by an error that led directly to a shot for the opposition. That mistake really brings his rating down despite his otherwise combative display. Almost great, but not quite.

Ayoni Santos - 5.5: A really poor day at the office for Santos. He lost possession a staggering 13 times and made an error leading to a shot. He seemed off the pace and struggled to get into the game at all. We noticed his body language seemed frustrated. Easily the most disappointing performance for the winning side.

Shunsuke Mito - 8.0: A constant menace and a key reason his team won. He won the decisive penalty with a clever piece of play, showing his quick feet and football intelligence. He took six shots, though many were blocked, showing his intent to make things happen. He was tireless, tracking back and contributing defensively too. A fantastic, high-energy performance.

Forwards

Tobias Lauritsen - 8.5: Absolutely the match-winner and our highest-rated player. He showed immense composure to score the decisive penalty late in the game. But his performance was so much more than just that goal. He was a colossal presence up front, winning a staggering 13 duels. What stood out to us was his aerial dominance, winning 10 of 13 aerial battles which is just incredible. He also created four chances for his teammates, showing he's not just a target man. A complete and dominant forward's performance.

Substitutes

Lushendry Martes - 6.5: Came on at halftime and offered more stability than Sambo. Had a shot on target that was well saved. Solid cameo.

Ayoub Oufkir - 6.5: Looked lively after coming on, getting a couple of shots on target and asking questions of the keeper. Good energy.

Lance Duijvestijn - N/A: Didn't have enough time or involvement to warrant a rating.

Mike Kleijn - N/A: Brought on late to see the game out. Not enough time to rate.

Tijs Velthuis - N/A: A late defensive sub to secure the win.

Manager

M. Steijn - 7.5: His team got the job done, even if it wasn't pretty. The tactics to overload the wings and deliver crosses eventually paid off by creating the penalty situation. His substitutions were timely and helped maintain control of the game. A deserved win earned through persistence and a solid game plan. He'll be happy with the three points.

FC Volendam Player Ratings vs Sparta Rotterdam

Goalkeeper

Kayne van Oevelen - 8.5: Simply outstanding. Despite being on the losing side, he was arguably the best player on the pitch. He made an incredible nine saves, six from inside the box, to keep his team in the game. He could do nothing about the penalty. Without him, this would have been a much heavier defeat. A heroic and defiant performance that deserved better.

Defenders

Deron Payne - 6.0: A fairly quiet 45 minutes before being substituted at halftime. He won most of his duels but didn't offer much going forward. The change seemed tactical to try to get more offensive impetus. He wasn't bad, but he wasn't particularly impactful either.

Mawouna Amevor - 5.0: A very tough evening for the centre-back. He really struggled with the physical presence of Lauritsen, losing seven of his eight duels. He was constantly under pressure and looked shaky. A difficult assignment that he unfortunately failed to handle. A day he will want to forget quickly.

N. Verschuren - 7.0: A warrior-like performance at the heart of the defence. He threw himself in front of everything, making four crucial blocks and five clearances. While he struggled in the air at times, his commitment on the ground was immense. He was a huge reason why Sparta struggled to score from open play.

Yannick Leliendal - 6.5: A solid and determined display from the fullback. He won five of his eight duels and was successful with both of his tackle attempts. He did his defensive duties diligently, though he offered little threat going forward. A disciplined if unspectacular performance.

Midfielders

Ozan Kökcü - 6.5: He was one of the few who tried to provide a creative spark for Volendam. He created three chances and put in some decent crosses. However, he was also guilty of losing possession too easily at times. He showed flashes of quality but lacked the consistency to truly dominate the midfield battle.

Gibson Yah - 4.5: It's a harsh game sometimes, and this was a brutal lesson for the midfielder. From our perspective, his entire performance is overshadowed by one moment. Giving away the penalty in the 78th minute was a catastrophic error that cost his team a valuable point. Before that, he was having an okay game, making five tackles and working hard. But a mistake of that magnitude in a tight game is unforgivable from a rating standpoint. It was a moment of panic, and it proved decisive.

Brandley Kuwas - 6.0: He had one shot on target but otherwise struggled to make an impact on the game. He picked up a yellow card and was subbed off just after the hour mark. He worked hard but couldn't unlock the Sparta defence. A quiet and ineffective outing.

Aurelio Oehlers - 6.5: Looked lively and was one of Volendam's brighter sparks. He was tidy in possession and created a couple of chances for his teammates. He had a decent shot saved late on. He showed promise but, like his team, lacked that final bit of quality to make a difference.

Nordin Bukala - 6.0: A combative but ultimately frustrating performance. He won a good number of tackles but was also dribbled past three times and picked up a booking. Substituted after 63 minutes. He put in a shift but was part of a midfield that was second-best for large periods.

Forwards

Henk Veerman - 6.0: A difficult and isolated evening for the captain. He worked hard and won a few aerial duels, even creating a couple of chances. However, he was starved of any real service. He fed on scraps all game and couldn't conjure a clear-cut opportunity for himself. A thankless task for him.

Substitutes

Joel Ideho - 6.0: Brought on to add pace but was caught offside a couple of times and couldn't get into the flow of the game.

Xavier Mbuyamba - 6.5: Made an impact with a powerful header that forced a good save. Looked a threat from set-pieces.

Robert Mühren - N/A: Came on too late to have any real impact.

Aaron Meijers - N/A: Not enough time to warrant a rating.

Manager

R. Kruijs - 6.0: His team was set up to be resilient and hard to beat, and for 78 minutes, it worked perfectly thanks to their goalkeeper. They showed a lot of fight and spirit. However, they offered very little going forward and were ultimately undone by an individual error. He can be proud of the effort, but the lack of attacking threat is a major concern.
