Huddersfield Town vs Man City Player Ratings

Summary

  • An easy outing for Man City against Huddersfield Town, with a dominant display of football in a 2-0 victory.
  • Dion Charles had a difficult game as he registered only eight touches and received the lowest rating in this match.
  • Phil Foden was a class above anyone else today, totally undefendable on the field.

What a one-sided affair we just witnessed in Round 3 of the Carabao Cup between Huddersfield vs Man City. The visitors didn't bat an eye, with the home side stuck in their own half for the majority of the match. City dominated the ball from the first whistle, probing and patiently waiting for an opening to appear.

The breakthrough inevitably came, and what a goal it was. Phil Foden, looking a class above everyone else on the pitch, unleashed a stunning strike from outside the box in the 18th minute. It was one of those moments that just made you shake your head in admiration. Huddersfield, to their credit, didn't completely fold. They worked tirelessly but struggled to create any clear-cut chances against a resolute City backline.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Man City kept the ball, controlled the tempo, and eventually sealed the match in the 74th minute. It was Savinho this time, finishing coolly after being set up by the brilliant Foden. While Huddersfield hit the crossbar late on, it was merely a footnote in a game completely controlled by the visitors. A straightforward win for Pep's men as they progress to the next round. Here are the Huddersfield Town vs Man City player ratings.

Man City Player Ratings vs Huddersfield Town

Here are the Man City player ratings vs Huddersfield Town.

Goalkeeper

James Trafford - 6.5: We noticed he had a very quiet evening, which is a testament to the outfield players. He had virtually no saves to make. His distribution was perfect, completing all his passes, but he was largely a spectator for the 90 minutes.

Defenders

John Stones - 8.0: The captain led by example. From our perspective, he was imperious at the back, strolling through the game with incredible ease. His 98% pass accuracy and 116 touches show how involved he was in building play from the back. Just pure class and composure.

Nathan Aké - 7.5: Another typically solid display from the Dutchman. He was defensively sound, winning his duels and recovering the ball seven times. What stood out to us was his comfort in possession, completing 120 passes. He even popped up with a key pass. A very reliable performance.

Matheus Nunes - 8.0: Played in a defensive role and absolutely excelled. He seemed to be everywhere. We were impressed by his defensive numbers: six duels won, three tackles, and four interceptions. He was also a force going forward, with 138 touches. A fantastic all-round game.

Nico O'Reilly - 7.0: A really promising performance from the youngster. He didn't look out of place at all. He was tidy on the ball and had a good chance saved in the second half. He lost a couple of duels but that's to be expected. A positive showing.

Midfielders

Nico González - 7.5: He was the creative spark in the middle for large parts of the game. He created three chances, including one big chance, and was always looking to play a forward pass. A bit loose in possession at times, but his intent was always positive. A very encouraging display.

Savinho - 8.0: What a livewire. He was a constant threat with his pace and dribbling. He took his goal extremely well, a composed finish to kill the game. He was a bit wasteful at times, losing possession 18 times, but his directness made things happen. He was exciting to watch.

Phil Foden - 9.0: The best player on the park by a country mile, our Man of the Match. His goal was sublime, a pure strike that lit up the game. He then turned provider for the second goal, capping a perfect performance. Everything good City did went through him. He was just on another level.

Oscar Bobb - 7.0: Looked very neat and tidy, with a 94% pass accuracy. He tried to make things happen with his dribbling but found it tough against a packed defence. A bit frustrating for him at times, but he kept working and had a shot on target saved. Decent outing.

Rico Lewis - 7.0: Mr. Reliable. He put in a solid shift, winning all his duels and tackles. He also chipped in with two key passes, showing his quality in the final third. A typically energetic and intelligent performance from the versatile youngster.

Forwards

Divine Mukasa - 7.5: This kid looks like a real handful. He was incredibly busy up front, taking a total of six shots. He was unlucky not to score, with two on target and four blocked. He also grabbed an assist for Foden's opener. A really raw but exciting talent.

Manager

Josep Guardiola - 7.5: He rotated his squad heavily but the standard didn't drop. The team was well-drilled, controlled the game, and secured a comfortable win. His faith in the young players was rewarded. A straightforward night at the office for the boss.

Huddersfield Town Player Ratings vs Man City

Here are the Huddersfield Town player ratings vs Man City.

Goalkeeper

Lee Nicholls - 7.5: He was Huddersfield's best player, without a doubt. He made five saves, including four from inside the box, to keep the scoreline from becoming embarrassing. He could do nothing about either goal. A brave and busy performance.

Defenders

Lasse Sørensen - 5.5: It was a tough night for him against City's fluid attack. He struggled to get a foothold in the game and lost possession frequently. It was no surprise to see him substituted in the second half.

Murray Wallace - 6.0: He was under constant pressure and made a massive seven clearances. However, he was part of a defence that was simply outclassed. He committed a foul that led to a dangerous free-kick and found it hard going.

J. Feeney - 6.5: Probably the pick of the Huddersfield defenders. He made six clearances and even created a big chance with a header from a set-piece. He fought hard and showed some quality, but it was a difficult task against this City side.

Seán Roughan - 6.0: He worked tirelessly down the left flank but was given a real runaround. He was dribbled past twice and struggled to contain City's wingers. He made six clearances and won a few duels, but it was a long night for him.

Midfielders

Ben Wiles - 6.5: The captain put in a real shift in midfield. He was tidy in possession and made three interceptions, trying to break up City's rhythm. He never stopped running and tried to lead his team, but the quality gap was just too large.

Marcus Harness - 5.5: He really struggled to make any impact on the game. With only 14 touches in 62 minutes, he was a passenger for much of his time on the pitch. His 50% pass accuracy sums up his difficult evening.

David Kasumu - 6.0: He battled hard in the middle of the park, winning four duels and making a couple of tackles. However he was often chasing shadows as City's midfield passed around him. Substituted late on after a tiring game.

Zepiqueno Redmond - 5.5: Missed a huge chance in the second half that could have made things interesting. He was energetic but lacked quality in the final third. His two shots off target and being caught offside highlight a frustrating performance.

Daniel Vost - 5.5: Another player who struggled to get into the game. He was dispossessed twice and offered little going forward. He made four clearances but was largely anonymous against the City press.

Forwards

Dion Charles - 5.0: A truly thankless task for the lone striker. From our perspective, he was completely isolated. He had just eight touches in the 77 minutes he was on the pitch. It's hard to be too critical, as he had absolutely no service.

Manager

G. Lee - 6.0: His team was set up to be solid and frustrate City, but the early goal ruined that game plan. They worked hard and never gave up, which is a credit to him. However, they lacked any real attacking threat to trouble City's defence.
