Johor Darul Ta'Zim 3-3 Chelsea Player Ratings: Delap's Double Penalty Goes In Vain As The Blues Are Held To A Thrilling Draw In Malaysia

Chelsea played a pre-season friendly with Malaysian outfit Johor Darul Ta'zim at the Stadium Sultan Ibrahim Larkin in Malaysia. Xabi Alonso and co. were coming off a 3-0 victory over AC Milan, which came as a sigh of relief after two successive defeats against Tottenham and Juventus.

Johor Darul Ta'zim were riding on the back of a 2-0 win over Spanish third division side FC Cartagena SAD, looking to put in a tough fight against a relatively inexperienced Chelsea FC side.

The Malaysian club drew first blood in this fixture as Arif Aiman scored from a Marcos Guilherme assist to put his team in the lead in the 14th minute. The Blues pushed forward in search of an opener, but were finding it difficult to deliver the final ball.

They struck gold just three minutes before halftime, when Liam Delap was fouled in the penalty area by Kevin Medina, resulting in a spot kick. The forward made no mistake in finding the back of the net, bringing Chelsea back into the game.

Delap had the chance to put his team in the lead and also double his tally for the day just before halftime, as Nicolas Jackson played him through with a beautiful trivela pass, but the forward missed the one-on-one against the goalkeeper.

However, he didn't have to wait long as Chelsea got another penalty in the second half, when Jamie Gittens was brought down by Óscar Arribas. Delap stepped up and hit the penalty on the opposite side of Ahmad Hazmi's dive to put the Blues ahead.

Just three minutes later, the forward was on the wrong side of things when a free kick from Óscar Arribas deflected off him to find the back of the net, bringing the scores level once again.

Johor DT took the lead once again in the match, as substitute Bérgson found the back of the net from outside of the box in the 86th minute. However, Chelsea were not done either, as a Cristóbal Márquez own goal made the score 3-3 in the 89th minute, which remained to be the final scoreline.
