The finalists of the 2024 Durand Cup final met once again in the 2026 edition as Mohun Bagan took on NorthEast United in their own backyard in the second semifinal. With East Bengal awaiting their probable opponent in the final, both teams came to this game with a lot at stake.

It was a rainy evening at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong, where players found it difficult to keep their footing at times, and the ball rolled slower than usual. Despite these constraints, both teams put up a commendable fight in this fixture.

NorthEast United had slightly higher possession in the first half, but had zero shots on target. Alaaeddine Ajaraie had the best chance of the game for the hosts as Rahul Bheke slipped and helped Ajaraie to get some space in front of him, but the Moroccan shot it wide.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant came close through Liston Colaco's free kick, which was parried away quite brilliantly by Gurmeet Singh Chahal. The Mariners had three shots on target, but none of them could find the back of the net.

Sahal Abdul Samad hit a shot from just in front of the centre line after seeing Gurmeet way off his line, but the goalkeeper covered his ground well to get hold of it just in front of the goalpost.

The second half was more or less a carbon copy of the first, where both teams tussled for the opener but neither got one. Ultimately, the game went to penalties. The score was tied at 3-3 when Vishal Kaith proved to be the saviour once again as he saved Robin Yadav's spot kick.

Parthib Gogoi's strike was saved too by the ever-present Kaith, and Mohun Bagan completed their revenge for the 2024 Durand Cup final. They will now face their arch rivals in the final game of the tournament, which is promised to be an absolute cracker.
