Portugal 2-1 Norway Player Ratings: Goncalo Ramos Fills In Cristiano Ronaldo's Shoes Once Again As Norway Succumb To Another Winner From The Milan Striker

Summary

  • Kristoffer Ajer scored a screamer in the 36th minute to give Norway the lead.
  • Joao Cancelo's belter from the edge of the box just two minutes later restored parity for Portugal in the game.
  • Gonçalo Ramos proved to be decisive another time as he scored from close range in the 79th minute to give the Seleção the much-needed lead.

Amid the drama surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo's sudden departure from the national team camp, Portugal had to prepare to face the Vikings, Norway, on home soil. The last match in Oslo was a tense fixture; although the Seleção salvaged a positive result, they faced the same test again in their final game of this international break.

Both teams went toe-to-toe with each other in the first half, as the Portugal national football team wanted to seal their top spot after winning four games in a row and make things easier in the future fixtures, while Norway were hell-bent on causing an upset against a team which was believed to be in some sort of morale turmoil.

The Norway national football team drew first blood, as Martin Ødegaard's free-kick found its way to Kristoffer Ajer, who controlled the ball well despite Bruno Fernandes jumping in front of him, and he unleashed a brilliant in-step shot from the edge of the box to make the ball fly past a diving Diogo Costa into the back of the net.

Ajer's shot was bettered by João Cancelo just two minutes later, as Nuno Mendes' long throw-in came all the way to the FC Barcelona right-back, and he just put his foot through the shot, which had enough power behind it to beat Egil Selvik at his near post.

Gonçalo Ramos proved to be the difference-maker once again, as Vitinha lobbed one in for João Félix in the box, and the Al Nassr striker laid it on a plate for Ramos to slot it home, although the finish was rather a scrappy one from the AC Milan striker, where the ball seemed to come off his calf.

Francisco Conceição recieved a heinous red card for giving a sarcastic thumbs-up to the referee following his previous yellow card due to complaints over a foul from Leo Østigard in the box, making things interesting once again in the game.

Portugal managed to hold on their slender lead, despite being down to 10 men, sealing their place at the top of Group D.
