RB Leipzig 3–3 Bayern Munich Player Ratings: Late Poulsen Goal Stops Bavarians from Celebrating the Bundesliga Title Win

RB Leipzig played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Bayern Munich at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday, 3 May 2025. The hosts took a 2-0 lead in the first half through Benjamin Sesko and Lukas Klostermann’s goals. Bayern Munich completed a second-half comeback through Eric Dier, Michael Olise, and Leroy Sane’s goals, but Yussuf Poulsen’s stoppage-time goal forced the two teams to split the points.

The hosts started the game in blistering fashion, taking the fight to Bayern Munich and looking to torment them on the counterattacks. RB Leipzig had a huge chance in the 2nd minute itself, when Amadou Haidara pounced on a defensive error but saw his close-range shot sharply saved by Jonas Urbig. Haidara saw another long-range effort go wide after three minutes.

Serge Gnabry had a big chance to give the visitors the lead in the 9th minute after stealing away possession, but only managed to shoot wide. Leroy Sane forced a big save a minute later with a sharp shot. RB Leipzig continued to be threatening on the counterattack and saw their efforts rewarded in the 11th minute, when Benjamin Sesko was sent through on goal. He witnessed Urbig out of his goal line and swerved an outside-of-the-boot shot into the empty net to give his side the lead.

Sesko threatened on the counter-attack again in the 20th minute, but his shot was saved. Thomas Muller had a decent chance in the 30th minute, but his header was unconvincing. RB Leipzig doubled their lead in the 39th minute after a brilliant delivery from David Raum was headed in by Lukas Klostermann. Gnabry had a huge chance to pull one back in the 40th minute, but somehow diverted an open header over the bar to frustrate the Bavarians.

Bayern Munich took control of the game at the start of the first half and started pushing RB Leipzig. Joshua Kimmich witnessed a long-range effort sky was just over the bar around the hour mark. What followed was a few minutes of madness. In the 62nd minute, a Michael Olise corner was flicked into the back of the net by Eric Dier to make it 2-1. Olise then managed to capitalize on a defensive error to run his way into the box and make it 2-2 in the 63rd minute!

The Bavarians could’ve completed the comeback in the 69th minute, but Konrad Laimer managed to put an open header over the bar. Xavi Simons saw a free-kick attempt saved in the 75th minute, while Kingsley Coman had an effort saved five minutes later.

Leroy Sane then completed Bayern’s turnaround in the 84th minute by blasting a shot into the back of the net. Just when Bayern thought they had won it, substitute Youssef Poulsen popped up in the box to score a 94th-minute equalizer to snatch a point for his side and ruin Bayern’s party, denying them the chance to win the Bundesliga title on Leipzig’s ground. Here are the RB Leipzig Vs Bayern Munich Player Ratings.

GK – Maarten Vandevoordt – 4/10

Vandervoordt was caught in a bad position for Dier’s goal, failing to make his presence felt. Beaten quite easily for Olise’s goal, too, and his distribution was wonky. Couldn’t do much for the third goal.

RB – Kosta Nedelkovic – 4.5/10

The 19-year-old had trouble dealing with Sane’s pace and incisiveness, being beaten by him quite often. Failed to create much going forward either.

CB – Lukas Klostermann – 7/10

Klostermann proved his quality in the other box, scoring a great goal with a powerful header. Did relatively well against Gnbary, and he made 11 clearances too.

CB – Castello Lukeba – 5/10

Lukeba was mostly quite proactive on his half, coming up with some key clearances and blocks. But he was caught in an awkward position for Olise’s goal and couldn’t track his run properly.

LB – David Raum – 4.5/10

The German wing-back was a threat with his delivery and swung in a perfect cross for Klostermann’s goal. Did well to stop Olise in the first half, but struggled to keep up with him after the break. Made a poor clearance, resulting in the second. Lost a mark of Sane for his goal.

CM – Nicolas Seiwald – 5/10

Seiweld worked hard in covering a lot of distance, but struggled under the intensity of the midfield battle. He won a few nice duels, but also gave away possession many times and was in a bad position for the second goal.

CM – Amadou Haidara – 6/10

Worked quite hard in midfield to regain possession and helped out his side with his defensive contributions. Started losing energy in the second half and could’ve done better to stop Olise’s goal.

RW – Kevin Kampl – 5/10

The RB Leipzig captain played more like a midfielder than a winger. He often drifted into central areas to help stop Bayern’s flow and added zero creative threat.

LW – Xavi Simons – 7.5/10

Simons was a menacing figure on the counter-attacks, carrying the ball forward sharply and causing trouble with his final passes. Made a smart pass allowing Sesko’s goal. Then set up Poulsen’s goal with a clever pass.

CF – Lois Openda – 7/10

Openda was focused on tormenting Bayern on the counterattacks and did so pretty well. He was rapid with his forward runs on the breaks and helped create some decent chances on the breaks, too.

CF – Benjamin Sesko – 8/10

Sesko was a thorn for the Bayern defenders because of his movement and unpredictability. He scored an amazing goal with a trivela shot, despite it being toward an open goal. Troubled Bayern with a few threatening shots on target, too.

SUB – Arthur Vermeeran – 5/10

Vermeeran couldn’t add much steel to the midfield, failing to stop Bayern’s movement or help his backline. Also ended up getting booked.

SUB – Yussuf Poulsen – 7/10

Poulsen drove his side forward for a late sprint. Got in the right place for his goal, brilliantly chipping over Urbig.

SUB – Ridle Baku – 5/10

Made a few nice moves, but was unable to create much in the final third.

SUB – Lutsharel Geertruida – N/R

Did a decent job defending late on.

SUB – Antonio Nusa – N/R

Not able to create anything for his side late on.

Manager – Zsolt Low – 5/10

Low got his tactics spot on in the first half, ensuring that his side capitalized on Bayern’s defensive issues in defending against counterattacks. But he couldn’t make his side hold onto that lead. His Leipzig side crumbled under pressure, and the lack of energy in the midfield caused trouble. But his substitutions worked wonders as Poulsen scored the goal.

GK – Jonas Urbig – 4/10

Urbig began the game with an amazing close-range save, but things went downhill for him afterward. He was caught in a horrible position for Sesko’s goal and was caught standing still for the second goal. Then got chipped over by Poulsen for his goal.

RB – Sacha Boey – 4.5/10

Boey was overwhelmed on the right side and couldn’t make any real impact going forward. Caught in an awkward position for the opener and lost more duels than he won.

CB – Eric Dier – 5.5/10

Dier had a terrible first half, losing Sesko’s marker for his goal and then failing to mark Klostermann properly for his goal. Regained composure in the second half, winning more duels and scoring a bullet header to bring his side back. Caught in an awkward place for Poulsen’s goal, too.

CB – Josip Stanisic – 6/10

Stanisic didn’t look so comfortable in the centre-back role, as he struggled to keep up with Openda or come up with clutch challenges. Moved the ball around pretty decently.

LB – Konrad Laimer – 6/10

The 27-year-old was energetic in the left-back role, doing well to neutralize RB Leipzig’s movement down that side. He won five key duels but missed a huge open goal chance in the second half.

CM – Joshua Kimmich – 8/10

Kimmich acted like an inspired leader to get his side back into the game. He moved the ball forward impressively and regained possession nine times with his clever defensive work. He created five big chances and was rewarded with an assist with his clever pass to Sane for his strike.

CM – Aleksander Pavlovic – 6/10

Pavlovic struggled to deal with RB Leipzig’s counter-attacks, being caught in some awkward positions and not being able to impose himself. But he won a key duel that triggered the move for Olise’s goal.

RW – Michael Olise – 8.5/10

Olise had a bad first half, losing the ball cheaply, which resulted in Sesko’s goal. But he woke up spectacularly in the second half. Swung in a brilliant cross for Dier’s goal and then burst his way into the box to score a slick goal.

AM – Thomas Muller – 5/10

Muller wasn’t able to tap into his predatory instincts in this one. Missed a few decent chances after popping up in the right areas and couldn’t create much either.

LW – Leroy Sane – 7.5/10

Sane was a menacing figure with his forward runs, dribbling his way into key areas quite often throughout the game. He kept pushing for a goal and finally got it with an absolute smashing finish into the back of the net.

CF – Serge Gnabry – 6.5/10

Gnabry was sluggish and uncompelling in the first half, but benefited from dropping deeper after the break. He played a nice pass to Olise for his goal and created some nice chances too.

SUB – Kingsley Coman – 6/10

Coman troubled the Leipzig defence with his terrifying runs and ability to get into space. He was able to get past the goalkeeper in the second half in a move, but failed to convert his chance.

SUB – Leon Goretkza – 6/10

Goretkza added more physicality and energy to his side’s midfield. Moved the ball forward nicely and helped them dominate things in the second half.

SUB – Joao Palhinha – N/R

Couldn’t help his side get the job done.

Manager – Vincent Kompany – 6.5/10

Kompany saw his side have a terrible first half, as his decision to push them forward in numbers allowed RB Leipzig to hit them with countless counterattacks and take a big lead. However, his tweaks in the second half worked wonders. He dragged Gnabry deeper to create more room for the wingers, which ultimately disrupted Leipzig’s backline and resulted in the comeback! But then his side conceded a late goal, ruining all the good work.

Sportsdunia’s Man of the Match for his game goes to Michael Olise.
