Schalke 0-3 Real Madrid Player Ratings: An Impressive Performance At Schalke's Home Sees Los Blancos End Pre-Season Unbeaten

Schalke welcomed Real Madrid in their final pre-season fixture at the VELTINS-Arena, 11 years after their previous meeting in the UEFA Champions League. The newly promoted side were looking to test their waters against one of the best football clubs in the world currently, before kicking off their Bundesliga campaign after a wait of three years.

Although possession was quite evenly spread between the two teams, it was Real Madrid who proved to be more clinical in the first half. A misplaced pass from Ron Schallenberg put Kylian Mbappe through on goal, and the Frenchman made no mistake in putting it at Loris Karius's far post in the 6th minute.

Los Blancos' second goal came in the 20th minute through a Dean Huijsen header, assisted by Arda Guler from a cross following a corner. Schalke 04 tried to hit back but just couldn't find the final touch in and around the penalty area.

The second half saw little change, as Real Madrid were happy to keep the ball and were on the constant lookout for a third goal to seal the deal. The German side had taken more shots, in fact, in the second half, but a couple of good saves from Andriy Lunin denied them any opportunity to get back into the game.

Los Blancos found their third through Carlos Espi, who headed it in at the 57th minute from Alvaro Carreras' cross, effectively putting the game beyond Schalke's reach.
