Tottenham 3-1 Coventry Player Ratings: Maddison 8.5/10 as Spurs End Their Winless Start in Style With a Commanding De Zerbi Breakthrough Win

Roberto De Zerbi finally has his first Premier League win as Tottenham manager, and the relief that swept through the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when Marmoush’s 58th-minute strike sealed a 2-1 victory over Coventry City was as palpable and raw as any emotion this ground has generated across a deeply frustrating opening to the season. Five games without a victory, a historic goalscoring drought, and a fanbase growing increasingly anxious, all of it temporarily dissolved in a moment of collective release that this club desperately needed.

James Maddison’s composed 14th-minute finish gave Spurs the platform their early promise deserved, yet Rudoni’s 50th-minute equaliser for Frank Lampard’s Coventry immediately restored the tension and briefly threatened to extend De Zerbi’s difficult start. Marmoush’s composed 58th-minute winner restored Spurs’ advantage before Ben Davies, arriving from deep in the 96th minute, headed home to seal a commanding 3-1 victory that sent the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium into its loudest and most relieved roar of the entire season.

Maddison was Tottenham Hotspur’s most consistent and creative performer throughout, his 14th-minute opener, intelligent movement and relentless creative influence in the spaces between Coventry’s defensive lines earning a thoroughly deserved 8.5/10 rating. The England midfielder’s ability to consistently find pockets of space and deliver decisive contributions in the moments that matter most underlines his status as De Zerbi’s most important creative asset in a system that is gradually beginning to reflect its manager’s attacking ambitions.
