Tunisia Vs Liberia Player Ratings

Summary

  • Tunisia delivered a professional home performance to secure a vital victory over Liberia in Group H of the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
  • Ferjani Sassi was the highest rated player in the match.

Tunisia delivered a professional home performance to secure a vital victory over Liberia in Group H of the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. It was a thoroughly one-sided affair at the Hammadi Agrebi Stadium, where Tunisia asserted their dominance over a struggling Liberia side. Despite facing a down-and-out Liberia side, Tunisia showed their superior skills and experience to claim all three points.

The match was won in the opening minutes, with Hazem Mestouri scoring within the 5th minute. Liberia did well to contain the dominant home side. But didn't offer much going further whenever they got the chance. It was the home side's midfield running the tempo of the match, with Ferjani Sassi and Hannibal playing the major role in it. Liberia, on the other hand, looked disorganized and lacked ideas. They struggled to connect passes together and were constantly on the back foot, chasing shadows for large parts of the match. It was a disheartening to see their performance. Elias Saad joined the fun as he scored from the centre of the box to make it 3-0 in the extra time just before the whistle. Tunisia Player Ratings vs Liberia

Here are the Tunisia player ratings.

Goalkeeper

Aymen Dahmen - 6.5: Had one of the quietest nights of his career. Liberia offered next to nothing going forward, leaving him as a spectator for most of the game. He did what was required with minimal fuss. A clean sheet is a clean sheet, but he was never truly tested or forced into a meaningful save. Can't give him a higher rating for simply watching the game.

Defenders

Yan Valery - 7.0: A solid and composed performance on the right. He was defensively untroubled and spent most of his time supporting the attack. We noticed his positioning was excellent, always available for an outlet pass. He didn't do anything spectacular, but it was an error-free and professional display that contributed to the team's control.

Dylan Bronn - 7.0: Much like his defensive partners, Bronn had a comfortable evening. He commanded his area well and was strong in the few challenges he had to face. His distribution from the back was tidy, helping start Tunisia's attacks. Liberia’s forwards gave him no problems whatsoever. It was a straightforward day at the office for the center-back.

Montassar Talbi - 7.0: A rock at the back. Talbi read the game beautifully, making a couple of key interceptions to snuff out any hint of a Liberian counter-attack before it started. He looked calm and assured in possession. It’s performances like these, quiet but dominant, that build the foundation for such a comfortable victory.

Mortadha Ben Ouanes - 6.5: Spent more time in the opposition half than his own. He was a willing runner down the left flank, though his final ball was sometimes lacking. Defensively, he had very little to do. It felt like he could have perhaps offered a bit more quality in the final third, but it was a decent outing nonetheless.

Midfielders

Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane - 6.5: A tidy, if unspectacular, performance before being substituted early in the second half. He kept the ball moving and worked hard to help Tunisia dominate possession. Didn't have a massive impact on the game in terms of creating chances but played his role effectively. A solid cog in a well-oiled machine.

Hannibal - 7.5: Full of energy and creativity. The young midfielder was a constant thorn in Liberia's side, drifting into pockets of space and trying to make things happen. He capped his performance with a lovely assist for Sassi's goal. What stood out to us was his relentless work rate, even when the game was already won. A very promising talent.

Ferjani Sassi - 8.0: Our man of the match. Sassi was simply imperious in the middle of the park. He dictated the tempo of the game, broke up play, and drove his team forward. He topped off a commanding performance with a well-taken header to double Tunisia's lead. A true captain's performance from the experienced midfielder.

Forwards

Elias Achouri - 7.0: A lively and tricky presence on the wing. While the commentary confusingly credited an 'Elias Saad' for the third goal, Achouri was the man on the pitch causing problems. He was always looking to take on his man and created a few decent openings. His directness was a key part of Tunisia's attacking threat throughout the game.

Hazem Mestouri - 7.5: Scored the crucial opening goal with a sharp finish inside five minutes, which set the tone for the entire match. His movement was intelligent, and he constantly looked to get in behind the Liberian defense. He was a real handful before being substituted late on. Getting that early goal was his most important contribution.

Amor Layouni - 6.0: The quietest of Tunisia's attacking players. He worked hard but struggled to get involved in the game in a meaningful way. While his teammates were shining, Layouni was on the periphery for much of his time on the pitch. He was substituted just after halftime, which felt like the right call.

Substitutes

Ismaël Gharbi - 6.0: Came on and kept the team's momentum going but didn't have a standout moment.

Naïm Sliti - 6.5: Looked bright and eager to impress after coming on, adding some fresh legs to the midfield.

Firas Chaouat - 5.5: Made little impact and picked up a needless yellow card late in the game.

Hadj Mahmoud - N/A: Came on too late to make any real impact on the proceedings.

Manager

Sami Trabelsi - 8.0: His game plan worked to perfection. He set his team up to dominate from the start, and they executed his instructions flawlessly. The tactics completely nullified Liberia and allowed his creative players to flourish. A very impressive and comfortable win masterminded by the coach.

Liberia Player Ratings vs Tunisia

Here are the Liberia player ratings.

Goalkeeper

Tommy Songo - 4.5: A difficult, difficult night for the Liberian keeper. He conceded three goals and never looked comfortable. From our perspective, he seemed rooted to his spot for the second and third goals. While his defence offered little protection, a goalkeeper is expected to command his box better.

Defenders

Mark Pabai - 5.0: Was run ragged by Tunisia's wingers and offered very little going forward. He was constantly backtracking and struggled to contain the fluid movement of the opposition. Was eventually substituted, and it was no surprise. He looked out of his depth against this level of opposition.

Prince Balde - 5.0: As a center-back in a team that conceded three, it was never going to be a good rating. He struggled with the movement of Mestouri and was part of a defensive unit that looked completely disjointed. He made a few tackles but was ultimately overwhelmed by the relentless Tunisian pressure.

Nelson Laomie - 4.5: A performance to forget. He was defensively all at sea and capped a poor display with a late yellow card for a clumsy foul. He looked a yard off the pace and struggled to cope with the physicality and intelligence of the Tunisian attack. He was on the pitch for all three goals and looked shaky throughout.

Natus Jamel Swen - N/A: Was substituted after just 11 minutes, seemingly due to an injury or a very early tactical switch. Cannot be rated.

Midfielders

N. Kenneh - 5.5: Battled hard in midfield but was fighting a losing battle. He was overrun by the superior quality of Sassi and Hannibal. Was substituted at halftime after failing to make any real impression on the game. He chased shadows for 45 minutes, which must have been incredibly frustrating.

Solomon Tweh - 5.0: Similar to his midfield partners, Tweh was completely outplayed. He struggled to get on the ball and when he did, he was quickly closed down. The game largely passed him by. What stood out to us was the sheer gap in quality in the middle of the park, and Tweh was on the wrong end of it.

Oscar - 5.5: As the captain, more was expected from him. He tried to rally his troops but was unable to get a foothold in the game. He put in a shift defensively but offered nothing in an attacking sense. A leader needs to inspire, and unfortunately, Oscar was unable to lift his team's performance at all.

Forwards

Ayouba Kosiah - 5.5: Completely isolated and starved of service. It's tough to rate a striker who barely touched the ball in dangerous areas. He worked hard and chased down defenders but was feeding on scraps all night. He never had a clear sight of goal and was left a frustrated figure up front.

Jimmy Farkarlun - 5.0: Had a very quiet first half before being hooked at the break. He failed to make any impact and was invisible for large spells. The substitution was necessary as Liberia needed a different approach. A disappointing outing for the attacker.

Edward Ledlum - 5.5: Like Kosiah, he was left with an impossible task. He showed a few neat touches but was easily marshalled by the Tunisian defence. He never stopped running but lacked the quality to create something out of nothing, which is what his team desperately needed. A thankless task.

Substitutes

Kemoh Kamara - 5.0: Came on early but his main contribution was getting a yellow card for a bad foul.

Sulahmana Bah - 5.5: Brought on at halftime but couldn't change the tide of the game.

Divine Teah - 5.5: Added fresh legs but the game was already slipping away.

Philip Tarnue - N/A: Came on late with the game already decided.

Manager

Mario Marinica - 4.5: His team was outclassed from start to finish. His tactics seemed reactive rather than proactive. The early substitutions indicated things weren't going to plan, but nothing he tried could stem the Tunisian tide. A very tough day at the office, where his side was second best in every single department.
