Wolves 0-2 Brighton Player Ratings: Clinical Seagulls Keep European Dreams Alive By Ousting Sloppy Wolves

Brighton picked up a decisive 2-0 win over Wolves in their Premier League clash at the Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton on Saturday, 10th May 2025. The Seagulls took a lead in the first half through Danny Welbeck's penalty, before substitute Brajan Gruda sealed the three points with a goal late in the second half. Check out more in the Wolves vs Brighton Player Ratings.
The match began in a bit of a cagey fashion, mostly because of some nasty duels in the middle. It was the hosts who had the first big chance of the game in the 7th minute, when Goncalo Guedes guided a shot from an awkward angle wide of the goal. The Portuguese forward had another big chance to score a minute later after a swift counterattack, but saw his shot blocked off inside the box. Brighton started getting more involved in the game, being smart on the transitions.
The Seagulls thought that they had the opener in the 24th minute after Danny Welbeck tipped a shot into the back of the net. But the effort was cancelled by VAR, who saw Yankub Minteh's offside before the ball crossed the line. However, Brighton received a penalty in the 28th minute after Matheus Cunha lost the ball in the box and brought down Mats Wieffer. Danny Welbeck slotted home the penalty to make it 1-0. Marshall Munetsi had a few efforts in the first half, putting a header over the bar in the 36th minute before another effort was collected easily by Bart Verbruggen in the 42nd minute. He put another effort wide in added time after Paul van Hecke's expert clearance from a Matt Doherty cross, frustrating the home fans heading into the break.
Brighton came out firing after the half, but weren't able to take up their chances that well despite making some promising counter-attacks. Matheus Cunha was able to get a shot on goal in the 57th minute, but saw his effort saved. The menacing Rayan Ait-Nouri created a promising chance in the 62nd minute, but his cross was cleared by Bart Verbruggen.
Brighton substitute Brajan Gruda had a shot sail over the bar in the 62nd minute, while Wolves' substitute Jean-Ricner Bellegarde also had an effort sky over in the 82nd minute. It was substitute Gruda who was able to beat the Wolves' defensive line and chip a shot over Jose Sa in the 84th minute to give his side a 2-0 lead. Wolves failed to get back into the game, allowing Brighton to take three points and keep their place in 9th place in the Premier League to keep their dreams of a possible European place alive. Here are the Wolves vs Brighton Player Ratings.

GK - Jose Sa - 4/10
Sa had a shaky start to the game, giving the ball away a few times to put his side under pressure. His passing was poor, and he failed to command his presence in the box. Failed to do anything for Welbeck's penalty. Too easily dinked for the second goal.
RCB - Matt Doherty - 6.5/10
The Irishman was a proactive figure at the back, making some crucial clearances and regaining possession with his smart positioning. Also moved the ball forward nicely, but was taken off after the hour mark.
CB - Emmanuel Agbadou - 5.5/10
Agbadou had to work hard to keep up with Welbeck inside his area. He did make some key interceptions and clearances, but was still outwitted by the experienced forward a few times. Played Gruda onside for his goal.
LCB - Toti Gomes - 6.5/10
Gomes was a proactive figure on the left side of his backline. He made several important clearances and tackles to foil Brighton's chances. Moved the ball along pretty nicely, too, but was caught in an awkward position for the penalty.
RWB - Nelson Semedo - 6/10
The Wolves' skipper was pretty energetic with his forward movements, constantly driving his side forward into the key areas. He created a few nice chances with his clever crosses, but couldn't do all that much defensively to keep the opponents quiet.
LWB - Rayan Ait Nouri - 7.5/10
Ait Nouri was a menacing threat with his darting movement down the left wing. He constantly marched forward through the defensive lines into promising positions and created a few nice chances, too. Defensively pretty strong too, making three tackles and winning 12 duels.

CM - Joao Gomes - 5/10
Gomes had some trouble dealing with Brighton's counter-attacks, not being able to stop their movement precisely. Made a few nice possession recoveries, but his sluggish nature had him taken off.
CM - Andre - 7.5/10
The Brazilian midfielder was a hard-working and tricky figure in the midfield. He covered a lot of ground and came up with vital challenges, making five tackles and 11 possession recoveries. Created some nice chances too.
RAM - Marshall Munetsi - 4/10
The 28-year-old had a frustrating outing at the Molineux. He was able to get to the end of some promising chances in the first half, but his finishing was poor and he failed to trouble the visitors.
LAM - Goncalo Guedes - 5/10
Guedes had a sharp start to the game, having a few big chances early on. However, his finishing wasn't efficient enough, and he fluffed some decent chances. Fizzled out after the bright start and took off as a result.
CF - Matheus Cunha - 4/10
The Brazilian forward had a sloppy game. He gave away the penalty after casually losing the ball and fouling Wieffer. Had a sharp effort saved in the second half, but lacked anything inspirational in the final third.

SUB - Rodrigo Gomes - 6/10

SUB - Jean-Ricner Bellegarde - 5.5/10

SUB - Mateus Mane - N/R
Had a quiet late cameo.
Manager - Vitor Pereira - 5/10
Pereira was not really able to get the energetic best out of his players. They did move the ball forward nicely, but horribly lacked the final product and wasted a few chances too. Playing Cunha as a no.9 failed badly and his substitutes couldn't really make much of an impact either.
