Rovio Introduces a Mysterious New Bird in Angry Birds 2

After a long period of having the same birds in the slingshot line-up, Rovio has finally added a new bird to the Angry Birds 2 flock! Shade is an enigmatic new character with magical powers tied to ancient rituals and sci-fi experiments.

This addition is the first time in more than a year (2022) that a new playable bird has been added to the long running mobile puzzle game. The ghostly newcomer arrives through a limited-time event running from March 11 to May 7

Angry Birds 2 New Character Shade Arrives with Phasing Ability

The Angry Birds 2 new character, Shade, brings a very unusual backstory to the series. Prior to being a ghostly feathered character, she was known as Dahlia and was an inventive builder who enjoyed learning about ancient traditions. As she worked to replicate a spell involving a dark pearl found in Gale’s Old Book, Dahlia accidentally blew herself up.

This explosion changed Dahlia into Shade, transformed her into a lightish coloured being, removed all of her physical being and gave her abilities different from any other birds.

Shade’s primary ability is the Spinning Slash. When launched from the slingshot, she can phase through tower materials and pig defenses before unleashing a powerful slash that damages structures from the inside.So rather than attacking the outside of the structure as Red or Bomb both do by causing physical damage to the pig or tower, Shade attacks the weaker areas of the structure.

Because she can slip through walls and defenses, Shade is particularly useful in stages where pigs hide behind multiple layers of stone or wood.

How to Unlock Angry Birds 2 Shade During the Limited-Time Event

Players can unlock Angry Birds 2 Shade during the ongoing event that runs until May 7. To participate, players must first reach Saga Level 22 on the world map, which unlocks the event calendar and the activities tied to Shade.

Recruiting the new bird requires you to collect 24,000 Shade Feathers first during the promotion period. You can earn Shade Feathers from Feathermania, Daily Challenge, King Pig Panic, and the Arena. Players can also test the character through event activities before permanently unlocking her. And those who don't want any hassle, Shade will be available in the in-game shop as well.

During the promotion period, Shade receives a 4x gameplay boost. This bonus is effective for Arena modes as well as special challenges. However, when the promotion ends, the boost will no longer be available. However, Shade will remain as part of your flock if you unlock her before the deadline.
