Assassin's Creed League cancelled

Summary

  • Ubisoft Annecy reportedly cancelled an AC project dubbed League.
  • It was originally scheduled to be multiplayer DLC.
  • This article provides some insights into the fallen project.

Once again, industry standards might have just kicked in, ditching all emotion out of the Ubisoft Annecy office. According to a report from Origami, an independent media source, Assassin's Creed League was cancelled. The project was originally planned as a DLC for the earlier iteration, Shadows. Back in 2015, there was a rumour showcasing a bit of multiplayer mode in the latest AC title's files.

As a result, everyone thought Ubisoft might be up for something special. Recent reports, however, ditched those speculations. It might be a matter of days before AC fans get this unfortunate news officiallỵ. Keeping that in mind, here are some insights we have on the Assassin's Creed League cancelled, reportedly. We will also discuss how it's connected to Assassins Creed Japan.

Assassin's Creed League Cancelled: Is There Any Hope Left, Or Is It Dead Forever?

Before Origami, Tom Henderson, co-founder of Insider Gaming, reported a new Assassin's Project in the making. It had a name, “League”. Now, those who are well aware and used to looking for AC series leaks already know that the Ubisoft Annecy office was developing Assassin's Creed Shadows Multiplayer DLC. For context, it was expected that four assassins would join forces with feudal Japan (often referred to as Assassins Creed Japan by fans). It's quite evident that the story was the same timeline as AC: Shadows.

Reports have claimed that the officials “reevaluated" the project and decided to discontinue it as it failed to meet the industry standards. Apparently, this wasn't a sudden decision. The Ubi office in France even considered making the expansion as a small co-op, using the Shadow's open-world outline.

As an AC fan myself, the potential Assassin's Creed League cancelled news broke my heart. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who felt disappointed.

Ubisoft Vantage Reportedly Came to Save The Day

Despite all speculations, Ubisoft Vantage came to the rescue, and reports suggest the project might not be fully cancelled. According to the reports, Vantage is a smaller development team comprising 10 developers to continue the project. They plan to implement co-op modes and might arrive as a major part of future AC titles.
