Brawl Stars Sprout lawsuit

Summary

  • A Sprout air purifier company lawsuit can now reshape the brawler's design.
  • The Court ruled in favor of the French brand, claiming this was indeed a matter of copyright infringement.

Supercell could lose one of its more popular characters following a Brawl Stars Sprout lawsuit. The Andrea-Sprout conflict is not recent and dates back six years. The French brand had previously requested that the developers stop using their design, but Supercell rejected the claims, saying that their Air Purifier was not an original work. It led to the Sprout Brawl Stars lawsuit, and Supercell can now lose thousands of dollars.

What Happened in the Sprout Brawl Stars Lawsuit?

The Brawl Stars Sprout lawsuit first surfaced online last week when Supercell deleted some old art based on the brawler. These included the Bo x Charlie and the 7th Anniversary looks. It was later revealed that they were forced to delete these images due to a lawsuit related to a French air purifier named Andrea.

Sprout Air Purifier Company Lawsuit Demands

The French company behind the Andrea air purifier filed a lawsuit against Supercell for ‘copying’ their design. According to popular Brawl Stars creator @DrieBananen, Supercell was ordered to pay €250,000 for patrimonial damages. Another €80,000 was demanded for moral rights damages.

He also claimed that Supercell will have to delete all public visuals of Sprout's design. A complete character remodel, or deletion, may also follow after the Sprout Brawl Stars lawsuit.

The Court had rejected Supercell's request to inform players about this change. They noted that Sprout looked very similar to the Andrea model. It was determined that Sprout originally had a completely different stage in its early development. The Court was convinced that it was copyright infringement rather than a creative coincidence. The original designer of the Air Purifier also requested separate compensation for ‘paratism’ but was rejected by the judiciary.

Supercell is now forced to stop using Sprout and its mutant version in France. Every day Sprout remains in the game or on Supercell's social media with the current model, they will have to pay €1,000 per day for a year. Supercell must also provide the original designer with audited reports on the revenue Sprout has generated in France. This includes in-game sales, merchandise, and commercial licences. Delays will result in an additional €1,000 monthly fine.

Supercell is also required to reimburse €40,000 in legal costs. While the Court also ordered both parties to meet with a mediator to discuss a possible agreement, recent developments suggest it didn't happen.

Is Sprout Getting Deleted in Brawl Stars?

Despite the Brawl Stars Sprout lawsuit, it is highly unlikely that the brawler will be removed from the game. The brawler design will likely receive an overhaul in the next few updates.
