Chennai Government Set to Host One of India’s Biggest Esports Championships in 2025

The Government of Tamil Nadu has announced the Chennai Esports Global Championship 2025 (CEGC), a premier international esports event, and this also makes it a pivotal moment for India’s developing esports landscape.

The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) has partnered with Skyesports to host two headline titles, Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) and Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai, in November of this year.

Chennai Esports Global Championship 2025 Dates

The Chennai Esports Global Championship Counter-Strike 2 tournament will take place from November 7 to 13, 2025, and will feature top teams from India, Southeast Asia, and Europe. The tournament will also be an important event for the international esports community, as it will serve as part of the Valve Regional Standings, making the CEGC 2025 Championships one of the most anticipated events on the CS2 calendar.

Then, from November 14 to 16, 2025, the Chennai Global Esports Global Championship BGMI tournament will see India’s best BGMI esports teams compete for the championship title in this game. The tournament will feature a grand opening ceremony on November 7 to welcome stakeholders in esports and tournament organizers.

Chennai Esports Global Championship 2025 Prize Pool

The Chennai Esports Global Championship 2025 features two main prize pools across its headline titles, which are USD 50,000 for Counter-Strike 2 and INR 50,00,000 for BGMI.

The best teams of the regional qualifiers will compete in the Chennai Playoffs, which promise to deliver amazing matches. As for BGMI, the competition format and team structures will be announced soon, but likely, they will mostly follow the already well-structured BGMI esports format of India, which has been followed by Krafton and other third-party tournament organisers.

CEGC Will Be A Big Step for India Esports Future

Esports is witnessing massive popularity across the globe. Just recently, we have seen the Esports World Cup 2025 take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, featuring a massive 70 Million USD prize pool. On the same note, these types of initiatives will also ensure the growth of esports in India, as we have seen how the Indian government officially recognized esports as a regular sport in the recently introduced Online Gaming Bill 2025.

As the world's first state government-backed global esports event, it represents established global recognition of competitive gaming, or esports, in general. India has over 450 million gamers, which is expected to reach 730 million by 2028. E-sports events such as the CEGC 2025 will initiate opportunities across the spectrum of the sports sector along the entire value chain, whether it is about broadcasting or content creation.
