Clash Royale’s Biggest Progression Overhaul Yet Arrives This May, With New Collection Levels

Supercell announced one of the biggest changes in Clash Royale with the upcoming update. The Clash Royale May Update completely replaces its XP-based King's Journey system with a brand-new Collection Level.

The update also reworks card masteries, redistributes rewards throughout the game, and changes how the King Tower levels up. New exciting features, including future features like a new game mode called Evolution and Hero, with the fan-favorite C.H.A.O.S Mode returning in July.

Clash Royale May Update 2026

First things first, the Clash Royale May Update arrives on May 26th, with an all-new Evolution mode and a new Hero. Additionally, brand new cards are set to arrive in July with the Clash Royale Chaos Mode Return following its successful run last April.

The game's ongoing progression system has grown stagnant over the years, becoming frustrating for the players. Although Supercell addressed the issue, they are planning to bring wholesome changes that have raised quite a few eyebrows among the players. 1. The End of King's Journey

The Clash Royale King's Journey was the main path for player progression. With more levels and features being introduced, the King's Journey became complicated and stagnant from the player's perspective.

With the upcoming Clash Royale May Update 2026, Supercell plans to eliminate the Clash Royale King's Journey. Players, however, need not worry about missing out on their existing progress, with players getting all of their unclaimed Rewards from the King's Journey once the update goes live.

Additionally, Supercell is discontinuing XP as well!. After May 26th, XP will no longer be awarded through card upgrades, mastery completions, and clan donations. Instead of XP, Gold and Star Points will be awarded for donating max-level cards.

2. Introducing New Clash Royale Collection Levels

Supercell's new Clash Royale Collection Level system acts as a simpler and more transparent method of monitoring your account's progress. This is how the new Clash Royale Collection Levels will work:

• Add up the levels of every card you own
• Add +5 for each Evolution and Hero you own
• The total of all points is your Collection Level

As expected, Higher-rarity cards contribute more Collection Levels as cards enter your collection based on their rarity. Nevertheless, your Collection Level will always increase by 1, regardless of rarity.

All the cards from your inventory count towards your Collection Levels, even the ones you haven't utilised. According to the devs, the maximum Clash Royale Collection Level at launch will be 2,265, with future Evolutions and Heroes only increasing the Collection Level cap.

Revised Clash Royale King Tower Levels

How the Clash Royale Update impacts the actual King Tower in battle is one of the most asked questions. Your King Tower Level will now be directly linked to card upgrading milestones. The number of cards you have upgraded to certain levels determines how high your tower level is.

For instance, holding 9x level 1 cards or more may be necessary to achieve King Tower Level 2. Supercell has promised the community that tower levels won't be decreasing for anyone and rather will be increased once the new Collection Levels are introduced.

Mastery and Feature Unlocks in Clash Royale May Update

Supercell is also bringing significant changes to how to get Mastery rewards. Features like Pass Royale and Clans were previously restricted to King Tower levels. With the new Clash Royale Update, they will be linked to the Arena you've at, making it simpler for players to access the in-game features.

Masteries are also reworked in the Clash Royale Collection Levels. To help players keep up with the costs of upgrading their cards, Masteries are being changed to yield more Gold from Gems.

Gems are now being transferred to the new milestone rewards inside the Collection Level path as compensation. To make the reward loop feel tighter and more frequent than the previous level-up chests, these milestones will activate after every ten levels for players and every five levels for players exceeding Level 1500.
