Glaive Announces Retirement: Breaking Down His Iconic Career Milestones

Astralis icon Glaive announces retirement from professionally participating in CS tournaments and plans to transition into coaching. The 30-year-old in-game leader was benched by ENCE back in July 2025. Before that, he led the Finnish organisation to victory at the Elisa Masters Espoo 2024, which is also the last LAN trophy of his career.

The OGs of Counter-Strike will always remember Gla1ve CS2 as a god-tier IGL due to his era at Astralis from 2016 to 2019. In the era of dominance, the Danish organisation had won more than 15 Counter-Strike titles, including four Majors. It's very rare to see such an achievement in a small span of time.

Who is Gla1ve CS2?

Gla1ve HLTV is a Danish ex-professional player who played for one of the most successful teams in Counter-Strike history, Astralis. He led a staggering roster and helped the organisation win four Major trophies from 2016 to 2019. His stint with Astralis was exceptionally great, as his split-second decisions, utility usage, and other pivotal aspects had set a new meta in the competitive scene.

Despite being an IGL, Gla1ve HLTV was very skilful at an individual level. And rightly so, he was named MVP of IEM Beijing 2019 and was placed in the Top 20 players of HLTV in 2018. Later in 2023, the Danish IGL joined ENCE and helped them secure a few trophies.

Career Stats That Define His Legacy as Glaive Announces Retirement

As Harvey Dent said in The Dark Knight (2008), you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. That's exactly what happens as Gla1ve HLTV retires from the Counter-Strike 2 competitive scene on a good note. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), the 30-year-old wrote: “What a ride it has been. So many memories, so many victories, and lessons I’ll carry with me forever. I still get goosebumps thinking about the Majors, the Intel Grand Slam, and everything we built during the golden Astralis era."

As the staggering IGL decided to leave the arena, Gla1ve CS2 will certainly be remembered for his golden era with Astralis. Soon after joining in October 2016, the Danish player led the organisation to their first Major trophy in ELEAGUE Major Atlanta 2017. And the domination begins after that. While the Atlanta Major was his first step to win something big, that didn't stop him from winning three more majors: FACEIT Major 2018, IEM Katowice Major 2019, and StarLadder Major 2019.

Meanwhile, the iconic Astralis has also won the first iteration of the Intel Grand Slam. However, things went downhill from there. It's undeniable that, despite having years of experience in the competitive scene, Lukas "⁠gla1ve⁠" Rossander has failed to achieve a significant milestone in Counter-Strike 2. The Danish IGL had to deal with several issues, as three players were on their way out from ENCE. Despite these problems, the team ultimately qualified for the IEM Katowice 2024 playoffs.

In 2024, the team won the Masters Espoo 2024. Gla1ve CS2 made his final LAN appearance at the Tipsport Conquest of Prague 2025, where his team finished in second place despite losing to Fnatic. He thought this should be the ideal time to retire as a player and start his new journey as a coach. He's yet to discover what options he could get in the current scene, but confirmed that he'll surely use his years of experience, both in and outside the game, to help others be better at what they do.

As Glaive announces retirement, it does put an end to an era where Astralis surpassed all norms of Counter-Strike to establish themselves as the greats of the game.
