League of Legends Patch 26.9 Brings New Items, Rune Reworks and Meta Shift

The Lol Patch 26.9 Season 2 Preview introduces its new game element called "strategic distinction," which changes item selection and rune usage through its new design system. The League of Legends Season 2 update allows players to select different laning styles while using multiple build options available to hybrid and DoT characters.

New Laning Meta: Specialized Doran’s Items

The League of Legends Patch 26.9 introduces new starting options that help players who adopt specific laning methods:

• Doran’s Bow (400g): Doran's Bow converts its health benefits into 15% Attack Speed and 1.5% Omnivamp. The item functions effectively in "greedy" lanes which enable players to maintain continuous pressure on their rivals.
• Doran’s Helm (450g): The item provides its user with 110 HP and 10 Armor/MR. The "Helping Hand" passive ability enables champions to control wave movement by inflicting extra damage to minions without using Doran's Shield for health recovery.
• Gluttonous Greaves: The second-tier footwear item offers players both Omnivamp and a "Slay" passive which increases power through its stacking effects. The item transforms into Immortal Path which provides players with 5% damage increase when their health remains above 50% and 15% healing boost when their health drops below 50%.

Rune Rebirth: Return of DFT and Stormraider’s

Riot uses high-identity legacy runes to replace generic keystones because they need better balance solutions in their game.

• Deathfire Touch (DFT): The DoT (Damage over Time) mage keystone Deathfire Touch (DFT) returns as the main keystone for that character type.
• Stormraider’s Surge: The ability replaces Phase Rush because it activates after a player deals 25% of a target's maximum health damage within 3 seconds. The ability provides 40% Move Speed and 75% Slow Resistance to the player who activates it.
• The Arcane Comet item now exclusively supports long-range poke attacks without providing any support for DoT or burst requirements. Systemic Changes and Champion Adjustments

The League of Legends Patch 26.9 introduces comprehensive mechanical transformations affecting both items and controls.

• Statikk Shiv: The lightning chain now applies all On-Hit effects, though it no longer strikes the primary target twice.
• Role Quests: The mid-lane "Empowered Recall" ability has been changed to provide a permanent 6% bonus AD and AP scaling reward.
• Zeri receives a range increase to 550 and a complete ability rework as his champion update. The AP and AD ratios of Ezreal Xin Zhao and Udyr have received major changes which enable them to use off-meta builds effectively.
• Technical Updates: Ranked play now supports WASD controls while players can create and store specific keybinding settings for each champion.
