ICC Official Cricket Game

Summary

  • International Cricket Council has reportedly granted gaming rights to Bengaluru-based Indian Studio Lightfury Games.
  • Lightfury Games is developing the first AAA Cricket game for the mobile platform.
  • The new title can become the next official ICC cricket game.

The International Cricket Council, aka ICC, has reportedly invested in an Indian game-tech startup, LightFury Games, to develop the next official ICC mobile game. Although the two parties have yet to confirm this, many news reports have surfaced online about it. The Lighfury Games ICC deal is a groundbreaking moment for any Indian studio, since the company is rumoured to have earned licensing rights for all platforms.

ICC to Invest In Indian Studio LightFury Games For Its Next Title

The Bengaluru-based startup LightFury Games, founded by the trio of Karan Shroff, Anurag Banerjee, and Tina Balachandran, has reportedly received the official gaming rights from ICC for developing the next-gen cricket game across all platforms.

Developing a global Cricket game could help the ICC popularise the sport and diversify its commercial streams. ICC released a tender to welcome gaming studios in 2025. They bid on the development of a new cricket game.

Besides LightFury Games, many big players like Krafton, Electronic Arts, and Nazara Technologies had joined the bid, according to reports. Despite the growing popularity of the sport, Cricket is yet to have a full-fledged gaming title, but LightFury's next project could end the long wait.

Many reports suggest that ICC executives have visited LightFury's office, and the start-up's founders met in Dubai. Many reports speculated that ICC was interested in the project and granted official rights to the new title.

LightFury Games Working on a New AAA Cricket Title

LightFury Games, based in Bengaluru, is building a next-gen AAA cricket title, eCricket. Built on Unreal Engine, eCricket aims to deliver graphics, animations, ball physics, and a level of immersion that fans have never seen on Mobile.

The game is centred around India's iconic domestic ground, Shivaji Park, which has given many international-level cricketers over the years. The makers aim to develop eCricket as the first live-service multiplayer Cricket game, similar to Konami's and EA's footballing titles, eFootball and FC Mobile.

The game will feature a huge roster of more than 600 licensed cricketers, including the likes of Chris Gayle, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, and more. LightFury Games has already been backed by top Indian cricketers like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, and others. eCricket will feature them as playable characters after launch. eCricket could pave the way for a more robust mobile esports ecosystem.
