How to Breed Horses in Minecraft

Horses are one of the most powerful animals in Minecraft, which can travel a long way and carry most of your equipment and loads easily. These invaluable creatures can make your adventure a lot easier and fun. You can create a new horse farm where you can store your horses and breed them to create better foals with higher efficiency and better strength.

Where To Find Horses

Horses in Minecraft usually spawn in Savannah or Plain biomes. If you spot one, there might be a herd of four to six more horses somewhere scattered in the plains. There are currently seven different horse breeds with five different color patterns. Using these different breeds, you can currently make a combination of a total of 35 variations of new horses.

How to Tame Horses

Taming a horse can be very simple; you just have to have a little bit of patience. Once you spot a horse, make sure you don't have anything on your dominant hand, as it will be used to mount the horse. Reach slowly towards the house and aggressively right-click or pull the left trigger if you're on console to try and tame the horse. The horse might kick you and try to get away from you, but you have to keep the pressure on till the heart sign appears. Once the heart is shown, it means the horses are paired with you and tamed.

The saddle option automatically unlocks, so you can choose the saddle to put on your horse. Bring back the Horse to your farm or designated square and go back for more.

How to Breed Horses

There are two ways to breed a horse, which we will discuss in the following steps mentioned below. But first, it's important to tame the beast.

Find and Tame Two Horses

To breed horses, you need at least two horses to mate with each other. Once you've captured the horse by the methods mentioned in the heading above, you will have to do the same again and bring the other horse to the barn where the first one is kept.

Craft Golden Apples or Golden Carrots

To start the breeding process, you have to first feed the horses a golden carrot or a golden apple. You can craft a golden apple using an apple around golden bricks on the crafting menu. But this option is quite expensive and will eat all your golden bricks, which you can save for later. The other option, and a much cheaper one, lies in Golden Carrot. You can make this with a carrot and golden nuggets, which is much less expensive than a brick, thus saving you a lot of money for future use.

Feed the Horses

Once you've crafted these golden carrots, you'll have to feed each one to the horses and bring them closer. This will start the breeding process.

Raise the Foal

Once the hearts appear again, this will mean the horses have entered the love process and will produce the foal. The foal normally takes about 20 minutes to raise. But you can give it different treats like apples, sugar, and wheat to make the process faster.

How to Heal Horses

If your horse gets injured, it will lose hearts. To restore these hearts, you can feed them different items like sugar, wheat, apples, hay bales, etc. You can look at this table to know how you can restore hearts quickly.

Horse armor

Your horse needs to be protected so it doesn't suffer any damage. So you can dress your horse in armor made of leather, gold, iron, or diamond. The metal armor can be stolen from the loot. The only armor that you can make is of leather. These armors are very protective and have no date set for wear and tear. So, once your horse is in the armor, it becomes protected.

Minecraft Horse Statistics

The horse statistics can't be determined till you try to mount them. They can have higher jumps or a fast-running horse. But, there are no definite statistics based on which you can carefully choose to tame. What is most beneficial to get a strong horse is to tame as many of them as possible, then breed the best horses to create a new, high-functioning horse.

For example, a horse with the best health is bred to a horse with speed. They will produce a foal that has both. The new highlights can be added by breeding the new horse with another strong horse with a unique element.

Health

The horses have 15 to 30 hearts, which means 7.5 to 15 health points. These health points can be depleted when the horse is thrown into a battle or a melee where the opponent strikes the horse. This can be restored via supplements fed to the horse mentioned above in the article.

Movement speed

There are different movement speeds for the horses. This can be determined by how many blocks they can travel through in the game. The fastest horse can travel up to 14.23 seconds per block, whereas the slowest can be up to 4.7 seconds. These are inherited traits where the fastest horse will probably be the foal of the strongest genes.

Jump Strength

Jump Strength is another element to look out for when breeding a foal. A horse with speed can be bred to a horse with jump strength to produce the fastest galloping foal. The current stat ranges from 0.4 to 0.10, which means the least a horse could jump is to 1.11 blocks, and the longest jump will be around 5.3 blocks.
