In anticipation of the upcoming Pokémon World Championships 2025, Niantic has unveiled a new themed event for Pokémon GO. The Pokémon World Championships are going to commence in the upcoming week from August 15th, 2025 and shall run for two days until August 17th. This global competition crowns the top Pokémon trainers in the GO Battle League. This is set to be mirrored in-game with exclusive content, limited-time encounters, and new avatar gear all packaged in the form of an event.

The Pokémon World Championships shall see competitors from multiple games that including the likes of Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon UNITE, and the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG).

The in-game Pokémon World Championship Event in Pokémon Go shall see a Pikachu wearing a varsity jacket debut in one-star raids and Field Research. A shiny variant of the special Pikachu will be available during the event. Honedge shall appear in one-star raids throughout the event window. Dusclops and Diggersby will also headline the three-star raid lineup. Some Pokémons Marill, Paldean Wooper, and Honedge, are set to feature in Field Research encounters.

The event will include a $5 (~£3.76) ticket that unlocks access to exclusive timed research. Completing the research shall grant premium rewards to the trainers. Trainers can make up to a total of 25,000 Stardust as a reward. The trainers shall also get enhanced spawn rates for a select few Pokémons. Certain Pokémon will also get special moves for online PvP battles. Some examples of these are as follows:

  • Lapras will come with the move Ice Beam.
  • Primeape, Annihilape, and Clodsire shall have new movesets.

    The GO Battle League will showcase a new arena and fresh battle music starting August 11th at 08:00 PM GMT, continuing until August 17, 2025, at 06:59 AM PDT. During this event, players will enjoy several bonuses, including Stardust earnings from victories, an increase in the number of sets from five to twenty, and complimentary battle-themed timed research.
