The former Chennai Super Kings all-rounder, Vijay Shankar has announced his retirement from domestic cricket and IPL. In a cryptic post on his social media, Vijay mentioned: “I have decided to retire from playing domestic cricket and IPL to pursue new opportunities and play more cricket.” He also thanked the BCCI, TNCA, and his previous IPL franchises for giving him chances to play.

According to his post, it seems that the player is disappointed and gutted for not getting any cricketing opportunity for Tamil Nadu in the domestic region, even after contributing so much in the past. He didn't even attain an IPL contract for the ongoing season, making him remain out of the tournament.

Vijay Shankar surely wants to play some more cricket in his career and would only be able to play overseas after taking his retirement from the Indian cricket and domestic region. This step is surely because of some upcoming opportunity of playing cricket in some of the associate nations of the ICC. Vijay Shankar's IPL Career

Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar has had a decent career in the richest cricket league in the world. From 78 total matches, he scored a total of 1233 runs with an average of 26.23 and took 9 wickets with an economy of 8.67. He began his IPL journey with the Chennai Super Kings in 2014, but was only a part of a single match. Following that, he was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017, after missing 2 seasons since his debut.

Delhi Capitals gave him a chance with them in the 2018 season, after which he went back to the SRH. Due to his excellent performances in 2018 and 2019, Vijay was called into the Indian dressing room for the 2019 ICC World Cup. After playing there for 3 seasons, he went to the newly introduced franchise in IPL 2023, Gujarat Titans. In 2025, he once again became a part of his inaugural franchise, CSK, where he finished his IPL career.
