IPL Fantasy League 2026 Explained: Team Rules, Transfers & Points System

3 min
IPL Fantasy League

The much-awaited Indian Premier League season 19 is set to kick off on March 28, 2026. The opening match will feature defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Ahead of the tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced the IPL Fantasy League as an official fantasy gaming platform for fans to engage more closely with the action. This article will help you understand how the fantasy game works, making it easier for you to create your own team.

IPL Fantasy League Team Selection Rules & Player Availability

First, you need to create a team of 11 players within a budget of 100 credits. The team must follow these role-based limits, including 1–4 wicketkeepers, 3–6 batters, 1–4 all-rounders, and 3–6 bowlers. Additionally, you can select a maximum of seven players from a single IPL team, and only up to four overseas players are allowed.

You also need to pick a captain and a vice-captain. The captain earns double points, while the vice-captain earns 1.5 times the points scored by them. These roles can be changed at any time during the league matches of the biggest cricket league in the world.

Player availability is shown using indicators, such as a green dot, which means the player is in the playing 11, a red dot means they are not playing, a blue dot indicates an impact substitute, and no dot means the player is not part of the match.

IPL Fantasy League Transfers and Major Rules

The IPL Fantasy League follows a structured transfer system across different phases. Before the first match, users are allowed to make unlimited transfers. During the league stage (Match 1 to 70), each user gets a total of 160 transfers to manage their team. Before the playoffs, unlimited transfers are again available, while from Qualifier 1 to the final, only 10 transfers can be used.

Transfers must be completed before a match begins and will apply to the next game. Points are awarded based on player performances, with captain and vice-captain multipliers playing a crucial role in overall scoring.

In terms of key rules, entry into the overall league is automatic once you save your first team. Users can also create or join up to 20 private leagues. If a match is abandoned, it is still considered completed, transfers and boosters are not refunded, and any fantasy points earned before the stoppage are retained.
