IPL in Bangladesh

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is here as the tournament is all set to begin on Saturday, March 28. The opening encounter will be played between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Before the league begins, there is some good news for fans in Bangladesh. This is because the new government in the country has lifted the ban on the IPL and the league will be telecast there as well. Notably, the Indian Premier League attracts a huge viewership from Bangladesh.

The Information and Broadcasting Minister of Bangladesh, Zahir Uddin Swapan confirmed the return of IPL in Bangladesh, saying that there won’t be any restrictions now on telecasting the tournament in the country. He stated that the government doesn’t want to mix politics with sports and will focus on commercial and business aspects of broadcasting.

Bangladesh Lifts IPL Ban

The tensions between Bangladesh and India escalated after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) asked the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Mustafizur Rahman from their squad due to the political tensions between the two nations.

This didn’t go well with Bangladesh as they then pulled out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, and also banned the broadcasting of IPL in their country. The IPL ban in Bangladesh was a massive low point in the history of these cricket boards. However, with the new government coming in Bangladesh, things seem to have taken a positive turn between the two nations.

One of the steps in this regard has been lifting the ban on IPL, the biggest cricket league in the world. Zahir Uddin Swapan also stated that broadcasters can apply for telecasting rights and international networks like Star Sports can show IPL matches in Bangladesh without any restrictions.

Where to Watch IPL 2026 in Bangladesh?

So far, no one has signed the broadcasting rights to telecast IPL in Bangladesh. The government will soon be issuing a new directive and after that, broadcasters will be open to telecast the cash-rich league.

Previously, T Sports was supposed to telecast IPL 2026 in Bangladesh. They hold the broadcasting rights till 2027. There are chances that there will be live streaming available as well in Bangladesh with the Rabbitholebd App providing live action.

With Bangladesh taking a positive step, there are chances that the BCCI, the richest cricket board in the world, and the Indian government might also allow Bangladesh players to take part in the league.
